Self-Love: The One Question to Ask Yourself

I’ve been making a BIG shift in my life. I’m moving from self-care to self-love.

What’s the difference? Let me explain…

I don’t know about you, but the term “self-care” feels overused and played out to me. It’s everywhere now and it’s kinda become like a catch-all phrase.

When words get overused and become buzz words, it’s easy to become desensitized to them. They lose their power.

That’s why I had to make a major shift in my thinking around what “self-care” really means to me—and when it comes down to it, all the actions I take in the name of self-care, are really more about self-love.

This is the one question I ask myself every day to practice self-love over self-care.

I now start my day out by asking myself a question.

From working with my own life coach, we talk about what I got done, what I ate, if I held myself accountable. Productivity is never my weak point—but what I do struggle with is pushing myself too hard.

That’s when my coach introduced me to the concept of self-love and what that really looks like day to day and even, moment to moment.

So now, I ask myself this question—and it’s changed everything for me:

How could I love myself more?

In the moments when I’m about to pile a bunch of work onto my weekends, I now stop to ask myself: How could I love myself more?

Because falling into the trap of overworking is like a form of punishment, it’s punitive and definitely not how I’d treat anyone I love—so why would I do that to myself?

With the holidays approaching, you might already feel stressed thinking about having family and neighbors over, figuring out how in the world you’ll get work and everything done.

And that’s when you can return to this go-to question, asking yourself even multiple times per day:

How do I love myself more?

This is the one question I ask myself every day to practice self-love over self-care.

Self-love is a more all-encompassing way to approach life—because it’s not just about self-care activities, but it’s also about loving ourselves enough to not damage ourselves with negative self-talk.

For instance, maybe you learned that you had to struggle in order to be successful. That message is ingrained in you, so it becomes our go-to thought process.

But self-love is the exact opposite.

It’s asking yourself: How can I accomplish this AND love myself more?

I hope this inspires you to love yourself throughout the year ahead. Leave me a comment below and let me know how you’ll be loving yourself a little more.

You deserve love, especially from yourself!

xo,
