Check Out the Latest Issue of Southern Cottage!

I’m so thrilled to have one of my favorite projects featured in the Summer 2018 edition of Southern Cottage! This home is a beautiful balance of masculine and feminine created through bold hues of reds and blues grounded with a neutral background. My clients came to me looking to update the floor plan and design of their home to add functionality, space, and a fresh look. We created a beautiful formal dining room and formal living room – perfect for entertaining, while also keeping things casual with a great room that embodies what I call a “Southern Picnic Chic.” Here’s a peek…

The lovely new Dining Room greets you as you enter the front door. This space is fresh and beautiful with the perfect punch of red for personality. But the red isn’t so loud that family conversations can’t be heard around the clean, but traditional round dining table.

In the living room, we layered red and turquoise through throw pillows, drapery, the intricate pattern on the large ottoman and the stunning Chiang Mai floral on the wing chairs. The coffered ceiling, stone fireplace, and trim work leading to the Breakfast room are classic design elements that give this room a sense of Southern sophistication.

Everything became a bit more casual in the breakfast room and kitchen with a playful red gingham and large scale floral. All of these fabrics were selected with the clients’ goals for the space- hardworking, casual, but ultimately gorgeous!

And what about those green legs on the island. So fun!

In the master suite, we wanted to change the color story to blue while still transitioning the neutrals from the rest of the home. The plan was to create a calming effect and I think we achieved it. To create a perfect his and hers suite, a few pops of blue and warm wood tones in key pieces speak to the masculine side, while the curved patterns of the rug and drapery offer a feminine balance.

One of my favorite parts of this renovation was adding a large and relaxing master bathroom. The plush tufted ottoman (in Terry cloth no less!), and cozy blue area rug offer soft surfaces on the way to the tub where my clients can unwind at the end of a long day.
