Your Business Strategy: Stop Doing This One Thing

The other day during one of our live DesignYou Zoom coaching sessions (we have these weekly inside the program), one of our members wanted advice around following through on a business strategy that relied heavily on social media.

“I know I NEED to be showing up on social media,” she said (and I’m paraphrasing here), “but I really hate it. What can I do to make sure I follow through and show up consistently?”

The first thing I did was ask her, “Why do you feel you NEED to be showing up on social media? Why are you forcing this?”

“Because my social media team says I should,” she replied.

“Should” is a trigger word for me, so this response got me all riled up.

Here’s what I said (and it’s the same thing I’ll tell you if there’s something in your business you “should” be doing but aren’t) and I said it with LOVE.

“You clearly don’t want to do this or you would have already done it. I can’t magically make you start doing something this year that you keep telling yourself you should do.

I want you to just admit to yourself that you hate it and let it go.”

That’s right. I said what I said.

Admit that you hate that thing and LET. IT. GO.

Because the truth is, there are many (many) different ways to be successful in your business and that thing you hate is just one option. It’s one of a trillion bajillion actions that can lead you to your version of success.

I went on to remind this amazingly brilliant DesignYou member that I built my entire business before social media was even really a thing. I reassured her that her business was not going to die if she wasn’t showing up on video and creating Reels.

There are many other ways she can be successful — it’s just a matter of leaning into your strengths versus trying to force yourself into a box.

Of course social media works; I’m not denying that. But it’s not THE ONLY business strategy that works.

Our mission inside DesignYou is to help you discover what works for you.

Here’s what Jennifer Binion Nichols had to say about how she’s redefining success in her life with the help of DesignYou:

“My mind is being transformed and the way I think is changing each day. Every time I slip in my way of thinking, I know I have DesignYou to pull me back on my path. It’s truly making such a difference this year and I just wanted to say thank you!!”

So I want to know what you’re trying to force in your business. What is the thing (or things) that you keep putting off that you believe you “should” be doing?

Leave me a comment and tell me… or better yet, join us inside DesignYou, bring your questions to our weekly coaching calls, and let us help you find the thing that works for you.

The doors are open and I’d love to see you inside.
