I couldn’t be more excited to finally share an amazing project and collaboration with my dear friends, who happen to be my own contractor and realtor. They are a dynamic husband and wife team, and designing this home with them was a dream!
This hard-working couple and their two children keep a fast-paced schedule and needed a beautiful home that would support their on-the-go lifestyle, but give them a place to connect as a family, rest, relax, and detox from electronics with some old-fashioned family meals, holidays, and game-nights.
From the moment you step into the entry, the bright and airy color palette greets you and the architectural details take center stage. Similar style and color details move throughout the home to create the ultimate family retreat that this couple dreamed of.
Entertaining is a big priority for this family. From birthday parties to holidays to impromptu dinner parties and wine tastings, this dining room needed to work hard but look chic. Shades of green move from the entry into this space with a beautiful floral linen on the backs of their existing dining chairs, while the fronts are covered in cream vinyl, perfect for wiping off spills, even their favorite cabernet.
The casual style walls wrapped in a vinyl wall covering with a Faux Bois motif create a great contrast with the satin chartreuse drapery. This dining room has just the right mix of formal and informal to suite any occasion.
Pouring yourself a glass of wine has never felt so good, as it does in a butler’s pantry as sophisticated as this one. The octagonal motif on the glass cabinet doors is a beautiful modern detail that helps their glassware collection really shine.
The monochromatic kitchen with a mix of grays in the cabinetry, countertops, and backsplash tile keeps this bustling space from being too noisy. Oversized brass pendants give the perfect amount of lighting for food prep, and a casual buffet for afternoon homework for the kids.
Thermador professional-grade appliances make food storage and cooking easier, so healthy choices are always an option.
Sunlight is a huge part of a healthy lifestyle and keeps the winter blues away…Hello Vitamin D! The breakfast room, wrapped in windows and flooded with natural lighting is one of my favorite spaces in the home. Chartreuse is the common color thread that connects this space to the surrounding ones This time the chartreuse is looking hip as the vinyl seats on these gorgeous warm gray chippendale chairs. A custom-built breakfast table and feminine upholstered-shade light fixture give this room beautiful curves.
The family room is the activity hub in this busy home. The fabric mix give this space a shot of personality with a plush gray velvet, a handsome wool plaid and an oversized floral, linen print. I love using multi-purpose pieces in a space, like the swivel chairs that do double duty by turning towards the sofa for a personal conversation or towards the TV for Saturday College football games. And that large ottoman in the middle–it’s home to regular family game nights for this crew…Yahtzee anyone?
Layers, layers, layers. That’s what makes this room so serene, yet still inviting and cozy. I layered shades of green and gray, a mix of materials like stone, metal and acrylic, and a variety of fabric content from linen to wool to velvet. Top it off with commissioned acrylic paintings that tie the color palette together, and this room is as beautiful as it is nurturing.
Statics show that more than 3.7 million people work from home at least half of the time. And that’s true of this husband and wife, too. For her, this office nook is the perfect place to write real estate contracts, or hop on the computer and check on her latest listings. A Kelly Green Floral fabric, a green Greek Key wallpapered ceiling, and vintage-style green glass knobs keep this space fun and energetic. When not serving as her office, this space is perfect for paying the bills, or giving kids a quiet place to get their homework done.
The master suite is all about rest and relaxation. Let’s call the color-palette Greige–a mix of Gray and Beige that creates a respite from their busy days.
With traditional styling at the root–from the walls with panel-detailing, the painted French bed, the English arm chairs and architectural drawings that hang over the bedside tables, this room speaks to the style of both husband and wife. But this room is anything but boring, old, traditional design! The geometric patterns on the drapery and carpet, and the sleek silhouettes of the bedside lamps keep this space fresh and modern.
Whether their need is to start the morning calm yet energized, or to wind down after a long, draining, day, the master bath gives these homeowners all the support they need. The calming gray and white palette is part of the magic. The architectural columns were the vision of this contractor husband, and we wrapped them in bright, white, subway tile to give the room a touch of classic meets urban styling, as chic as a New York City penthouse.
The soaking tub, soft palette, and elegant polished nickel fixtures give this room the spa-like feel the client’s desired. It’s perfect for making self-care a priority in their busy and hectic schedules.
Looking professional, feeling beautiful, and having confidence is easier than ever if your closet is as glamorous as this one. Feminine details like the hot pink velvet damask on the banquette seats, frosted glass chandelier, and crystal drawer pulls make this working mom feel like a star to start and end each day.
A cluttered closet can equal a cluttered mind and a cluttered life. To keep this space organized, all clothing hangs behind mirrored cabinetry, and a stackable washer and dryer is tucked behind them, too. Drawers line the base of the room for additional clothing storage, and her beautiful shoe collection is highlighted behind the clear-glass, lighted case.
I love every inch of this home. It incorporates all of the tenets of my design philosophy, where I help clients thrive in their homes and their lives.
Healthy living is made easier in this home with the commercial grade kitchen appliances for cooking fresh meals, lots of storage for keeping clutter curbed, plenty of spaces to promote connection between family and friends, a soothing color palette that nurtures the home-owners and guests alike, and a master suite retreat all about rest and self-care.
Come back to my blog over the coming weeks as I take you through the process and details of how we created this amazing home that supports the family who lives here in living their best life everyday!
See you soon!
