Instagram Pix: Countdown to High Point

Posted by

screen-shot-2016-09-20-at-9-58-28-am It’s that time of year – a time I love! I’m not talking about fall (although I love that, too), but the countdown to the High Point Market. It’s so much fun to get together with my partner companies to show you new designs we’ve created together, like my Thomas desk above from Woodbridge Furniture.

If you’ve been paying attention on my Instagram account, you’ve see some of those inside looks, including the Blair Bar Cabinet I designed for Woodbridge, with their fun and funky stools covered in my fabric from Duralee!

Speaking of my fabric line with Duralee, I found another fan on Instagram, too – this adorable little Benny at @bennylove, who seems to love green and yellow especially!

It’s fun to launch brand new designs – and I have some amazing ones to show you in a few weeks – but it’s also exciting to reimagine products I introduced at past markets. Or to see what other people do with them – like the gorgeous stripes that Lovelace Interiors put on my Marguerite sofa from CR Laine.

My Lucy bed and Alexander chair from CR Laine look so different depending on the colors and fabrics that we wrap them in – like the navy and fuchsia in this guest bedroom.

My collection for Soicher Marin always looks spectacular – like here at the recent Atlanta Market – but wait till next April when we launch a MASSIVE new collection! Can’t wait!

And I have an exciting new launch in October with Woodbridge – my new outdoor collection of furniture! I can’t wait to show you the line next month!

So let’s start the countdown to High Point Market – the most wonderful time of the year!

Hostess Gifts

It’s the time of year when I love to entertain! Those crisp fall nights make me want to create delicious dinners for friends, or invite family over to bake seasonal cookies. And it will be the holidays before you know it, when I will head out to the houses of friends and family for fun events!

Just like any self-respecting Southern girl, I know better than to show up at someone else’s house without taking a fun little “thank you” along with me. So here are some of my favorite gifts to give the generous hosts and hostesses in my life!

Happy shopping (and giving)!

  1. Monogram Glass Coasters– Thank your hostess with a personalized set of coasters to add to her coffee table.

  5. ‘Emory’ Tea Towels– Tea towels are a beautiful and colorful “thank you” gift that can easily be personalized with a monogram!
  6. Silver Street Off We Go! Key Ring– She will always remember her sweet and thoughtful friend every time she pulls out her keys on this beautiful silver key chain.
  7. Poppy Fuchsia Folded Notes Boxed Set– Bright, bold, and beautiful, these patterned notecards are great for a quick note to a friend!
  8. ‘Crescendo’ Bourgogne Glasses– A set of 4 wine glasses will give your hostess something to enjoy after the party is over.
  9. Deluxe Round Enamel Cast Iron Trivet– This beautiful trivet will elevate hot foods to protect the counter surface so your host can continue to serve his famous spinach dip.
  10. UGG Snow Creek Throw– A cozy throw is great for snuggling up after the guests are gone! Let your friend know how much you appreciate her with this thoughtful gift.
  11. ‘All in Good Taste’ Tea Kettle– A lovely turquoise tea kettle will be much needed for warm tea on the cool fall and winter days ahead.

Tobi TV: Top 5 Ways to Use Bold Color

Posted by

Today we’re talking COLOR – it’s my signature and what I’m known for! I love using bold hues in my home and in my clients’ homes, but I know some people are nervous about using color.

So this week on Tobi TV, let’s look at some of my favorite colorful projects and then I’ll give you my best tips for using color with success! Let’s get started:

Those were colorful rooms, right? You can have the same result with color if you follow these tips:

  1. Use a neutral background, like in my living room. Although you see a lot of my signature kelly green in that room, if you look closely you’ll notice that the walls and major pieces are actually neutrals and the color is layered in. I also added some nice blue tones to balance the room.
  2. Consider using varying shades of one color to saturate a room, like the many hues of blue I used in my client’s family room. That tone-on-tone approach creates a restful room with a lot of color.
  3. Add your favorite punch of color to a room by painting pieces, like chairs or side tables or frames. You can select the perfect color for your room without having to search high and low for an item in that color.
  4. Paint the back wall of bookshelves to add an unexpected bit of color, and consider using accessories on those shelves that are all in a single color.
  5. Don’t forget about color in the outdoor spaces! You can use bold hues like coral and turquoise to create a sophisticated outdoor room.

I hope these tips will give you the confidence to go bold with color! It’s my favorite way to give a home a lot of personality! Let me know in the comments below how you like to color your world!

5 Reasons to Look Ahead to 2017

Posted by

I am a major planner – I love to make lists and set steps to help me reach my goals. And there’s nothing I like to do more than to start thinking about what I want to accomplish next. If you’re the type of person who thinks that’s crazy, or you don’t know why in the world you should start thinking about 2017 right now, I have 5 good reasons for you to start your planning for the new year!

1. The payoff. What you set in motion now will start making money for you in 2017! It’s like that quote that says that the future depends on what you do today – it’s so true. Marketing and PR that you start now can garner press for you in the spring. Business outreach that you put into motion today can pay off with customers in 2017. But it won’t happen if you don’t start the process as soon as possible.

2. Set a new course. Where are your weak spots right now in your business? Where do you need help? You may want to retool your brand, or add services to your menu, or expand your revenue streams. Think of the top 3 things that you want to change or add, and start organizing a new strategy to get you to those goals. Just writing that down will help you define your path to more success and a better business in 2017.

3. Saving for a big idea. For those new ideas you’ve defined for your business, will you need money to invest to make them happen? Now is the time to start setting aside funds for any money you’ll need next year! Having these next few months to put aside some cash will really come in handy for next year’s plans.

4. Organize your calendar. I know you’re probably super-busy just trying to get through each day right now, much less the rest of this year. But I promise that if you pull out a 2017 calendar and take the time to map out a few things, you’re going to have a better and more organized year than ever before! I plan any business trips that I want to take – like to markets or events – so I can figure them into my budgeting process. I also like to set aside my vacation now, so it’s locked in and can’t be moved! And I start really defining a marketing and promotions calendar for the blog, social media, and other marketing. It makes creating all that content so much easier and quicker when we do that. Be sure to include any holidays and special events that you want to hook onto for promotions. Like World Interiors Day on May 27 in 2017!

5. Set the tone for inspiration. Make 2017 your most inspired and creative year ever! I do this in several ways, but the most important is to set my theme for the year through a word or phrase. This is a great way to remind yourself through the year of what you want to accomplish. This year my word was FOCUS, and I have kept that in the back of my mind through the last 9 months. What will your word or theme be? And remember to set aside time (see the calendar above) to refresh your skills – to read, create, and learn!

Use these 5 ideas to prepare for your best year ever in 2017! Let me know what you think in the comments section below, and tell me how you’re getting ready for the new year!

Before and After: Divine Dining Room

So many of my clients who travel find their inspiration in their favorite boutique hotels, where things are usually a bit more glam than they are at home. My clients in this before-and-after project definitely loved those fabulous getaways, and they really wanted to have a chic dining room where they could entertain guests in style.

The dining room we started with was very formal, with a lot of details and ornamentation. I wanted to go more luxe and less fussy in the new design.

The room also had a grand scale, so it was definitely large enough for a long table for 10. The tufted wall and ultra-glam light fixture added those chic details from the finest four-star boutique hotels!

There was also an odd inset area in one wall of the room before, with a slab of marble serving as a sideboard. I wanted to use that space in a new and more sophisticated way.

I had a banquette built into the wall, offering a sitting area for pre-dinner cocktails or conversations over coffee. And there’s hidden storage right beneath that chic seat. The draperies and luxurious materials take this space from ho-hum to va-va-voom!
