2013…An Inspired Year!

Posted by

Happy New Year, Friends!

I am so happy to be here in 2013. I have to say that the new year is my second favorite time of year, only second to Thanksgiving.

I love the new year so much because I love nothing more than to have a fresh start. So many new opportunities heading our way and so many new stories we get to write for ourselves. Plus, I love to celebrate what I accomplished last year and draw that awesome line through those completed items on my list (yes, I’m a MAJOR list maker). Celebrating success feels SO good and gets us in the right frame of mind to turn to our new goals.

I love the renewed energy, HOPE, optimism and enthusiasm that I feel when thinking of the year ahead and what all I will accomplish, experience and be blessed with in the coming months.

I also LOVE New Year’s Resolutions. And yes, I know, statistics say that almost no one sticks to theirs. But, I find that so interesting and perplexing and I think there’s a simple solution to this, really. I think it’s just that most people don’t know how to write a resolution that they can achieve. I think people set themselves up for failure right from the start. And if only they could write their resolutions in a different way, I think the outcome would be so much different.

One thing I think that stops people from achieving their goals and their dreams each year is their negative self talk and the place they “perceive” they are starting from which is FAR from where they want to be. So I am excited to bring to you this week, some solutions for how to write your goals and resolutions, how to stop the negative self-talk, and how to perceive your circumstances from a place of gratitude so you will have a COMPLETELY different outcome in 2013. Because the exciting news is that where you are right now, is right where you are supposed to be. And everything that has happened to you happened for a reason and will play an important role in achieving your goals and dreams.

But before we get to all that, I want you to do something with me first. You see, I was all ready to jump into my resolutions this year when I found a FANTASTIC post from Layla, and that’s when things really got fun!

Layla introduced me to the idea of a “Word of the Year” and I can’t tell you how excited I am about this. It’s like the Cherry on top of my New Year’s Ice Cream!!

And what I didn’t realize is that in all my notes and work that I have been doing to prepare for 2013, I had already decided what my “Word” was. Or as Layla says, it was decided for me.

So here it is. My first of many “Word of the Year” as I know this will be a tradition for me for years to come. Are you ready? My word for 2013 is…

As in “Inspired Design, Inspired Business, and Inspired Life” or really any form of the word like Inspire, Inspires, Inspiring, Inspiration…

in·spire  (n-spr)

v. in·spiredin·spir·ingin·spires

1. to affect, guide, or inspire by divine influence

2. to fill with enlivening or exalting emotion

3.  to stimulate to action, motivate

4. to affect or touch

5. to be the cause or source of; bring about

6. to breathe life into

7. to stimulate energies, ideals or reverence

I will be telling you more about how I will use my “word of the year” to direct all parts of my life this year including how it will affect my blogging, the jobs I take on, my ideal clients and MUCH more.  Remember when I told you “A change was coming”? Well this is that change and I can’t wait for you to see what all it means to me.

Now if you are already thinking…”I don’t have a word yet, I don’t even know where I am now, much less where I am going”. Don’t worry. I will help lead you to your word and your path this year. First try to let go of perfectionism. This isn’t about picking the PERFECT word. You’ll have years to get better at this once you get the hang of it. Just pick a word that will INSPIRE you to make the changes you want to make. Something that can help keep you focused all year long. Something that speaks to your heart.

I know I wear rose-colored glasses much of the time. And yes, I am not only a glass is half full sort of gal but more like the glass is running over sort. But I would be living in “La La Land” if I didn’t acknowledge that 2012 was not an easy year for everyone. It was very challenging in many ways for many of us. So if you are really down about the year you had last year and it’s stopping you from knowing your “word” or from creating resolutions and plans that will help you achieve your wildest dreams in 2013, then I think my friend Whitney’s blog post called The Struggle is part of the Story can really help you find perspective and get back on track.

Or maybe one of my other favorite blogs, The Daily Love, will help you break through those problems that you have experienced that are holding you back because of the way you continue to focus on them.

And I am always here to answer questions if I can, so feel free to leave a comment below if I can help. But if we are going to kick start 2013, it’s time to buckle down and get to work!

So here’s your homework until we meet again tomorrow…

1. Work through any problems and challenges that are holding you back or if they are bigger than that, at least gain some perspective on them with Whitney and Mastin’s help so you can take the first step in releasing your life from their grasp.

2. Pick your “Word of the Year” (remember something that speaks to you, but it doesn’t have to be perfect), and leave a comment here to tell me what your word is.

3. Meet me back here tomorrow as I have some fun “Non-goals” to share with you.

4. Get ready for a month full of resolutions, goal-setting, and dreaming here with me.

I know 2013 is going to be an Inspired year and so much more. So I hope you will join me in kick starting our success all month long here on the blog.

Happy 2013. I hope it is everything you dream it will be.
