You can learn more about her work and how to get colour to do what you want at www.mariakillam.com. I’m sure you’ll enjoy this bit of advice from her today! xo, Tobi

The best advice I ever received on how to explain this to a client was from my former business partner, interior designer Jan Romanuk. She would say “The reason that won’t work is because you will end up with a room that looks like ‘Yesterday and Today’ all in the same space.”
That’s such an easy way to diplomatically let your client (or yourself!) know that their trendy vision will not work unless they plan to update more of the room/house than they may be prepared to at that moment.
Yesterday and Today. Combining them together correctly will give you a space that will fill you with happiness when you walk in the door.

Your expert advice is spot on. I have seen this problem in more houses than I can count. Thanks for articulating it so well!
Great choice of words. I’ve been in that situation. I’ve found that if clients are given a solution that will work until they can do more–they understand, are pleased, and get excited for more. Nice tip. Thank you.
