The Hampton Designer Showhouse: Hickory Chair

 "Hickory Chair"

My bedroom design at the 2011 Hampton Designer Showhouse could not have been completed without the amazing and talented craftsmen of Hickory Chair!  The many items in my showhouse room produced by Hickory Chair show the ability and flexibilty of this manufacturer.  They have been a long time favorite of mine and I’m always amazed at their flexibility in customizing their pieces to create a one-of-a-kind look.

The Simone Upholstered Bed derives it shape from a French antique.  I covered the headboard on the showhouse bed in F. Schumacher’s Nanjing in Jade.

The Anastasia Bench is from the Suzanne Kasler Collection and is derived from a Russian antique found in a Paris Flea Market.  I covered mine in a solid from Designers Guild.

The Lancaster Side Table from the Winterthur Collection is based on a drawing found at the Winterthur Museum.

The Park Avenue Tall Cabinet is also from the Winterthur Collection and is based on the original found in H.F. duPont’s Park Avenue apartment.  I opted for a painted finish.  The interior is painted in jade green!

I chose a desk on one side of the bed.  Once again Hickory Chair dazzled me with their workmanship.

The Regency Bamboo Writing Table from the Mark Hampton Collection added a bit of the chinoiserie glamour I was looking for.  A painted finish with gold striping made this piece truly shine.  But I added a custom lucite top from Plexi-Craft that covers Fornasetti’s Malchite wallpaper from Cole & Son for an extra bit of “wow”!

The Fretwork Arm Chair is from the James River Collection.  It’s the perfect partner to the desk.  I went bold on the custom coral finish and covered the seat in a custom version of my Bistro fabric from the Tobi Fairley Home fabric collection.

A Jane Booth painting really sets the tone for the entire room. This Kansas City artist is one of my favorites. But is doesn’t outshine the fabulous chest below. In fact they are a perfect compliment!

The Artisan Curved Front Chest with Drawer Overlays is from the 1911 Collection.  The overlays have been custom striped using the same jade color I used within the Park Avenue cabinet.  Hickory Chair craftsmanship at its finest!

I love taking classic pieces and giving them an updated look.  That’s exactly what I did with the wing chair in the bedroom.

The Queen Anne Wing Chair is from the James River Collection.  I transformed this classic with a custom finish on the legs and covered it in Schumacher fabric.

The Crystal Side Table is from the Mariette Himes Gomez Collection.  This lucite beauty is a beautiful silhouette of a classic form.

If you are looking for quality furniture that’s completely customizable, Hickory Chair should be your go-to source!  Can you believe every piece of furniture in my room was from this one fantastic manufacturer?  I had a great time making each piece unique so the room looked “collected” and coordinated but not matched. Hickory Chair never fails me and they are an indispensible partner in creating the bold and colorful interiors I love creating.

Is this grasscloth wallpaper? I love it. I want to use grasscloth for the walls in our office at home but am not sure where to buy it. (Worried if I buy online I might end up with cheap junk.) Do you have some recommendations?

You will never believe this, but my blog post today was on Fornasetti and I gushed about the Malachite wallpaper!! Which color did you use? I’d love to add a photo of the writing table to my blog!!

THank you Tobi for using your creativity to transform our classic pieces into such beautiful and fresh interpretations. I love the striping technique on the Artisan Chest from our New 1911 Centennial Collection. The Fabrics are amazing. The crisp colors on the Toile make a classic form of the wing chair an exciting graphic addition . I love the whole room.

I find myself “gravitating” to Jade Green and Kelly Green these days! A Kelly Green wall at IKEA stopped me “in my tracks,” Bursts of it here and there…. franki
