Before and After: Tobi’s Family Room

Posted by

I know how much y’all love before and after stories.  My family room didn’t always look like this!  Today I’m giving you a before and after tour of my family room so you can see the transformation for yourself.

As you can see, painting the exisiting bookcases made a huge impact.  And adding french doors to the patio make entertaining much easier!

I added another set of french doors on the opposite side of the fireplace.

The new color scheme is much more cheerful for my family.  The crimson was too dark!

I painted the trim around the fireplace for a cleaner look.  I also mounted the television above the fireplace so that it was viewable from all three seating areas.

This is the approximate layout of the family room of the previous owners.

As you can see, even by adding 2 sets of french doors to the room, I was able to dramatically increase the seating in the awkward space.

I hope you’ve enjoyed the tour around my family room! xo Tobi

You are so right! LOVE those before and after features!! I really appeciate that you included thw two floorplans, sometimes it’s difficult to understand the space just from a few photos… this is better – for me anyhow – to ge the relation between all the furniture etc. 🙂

Also, I like the fresh green headder and new images!

  7. Tobi, I got some really fantastic ideas from this post. I have a navy sofa and I sometimes feel like it is the bane of my existence. I love the colors you used and how light and airy the room feels.

Wow, that red paint was brutal – I felt stressed just looking at it and there’s nothing else in the room! The updated room is better in every way. In serious love with the color palette. Those seashell prints and I are dating now.

    Tobi,

You had your color engine running for sure! Masterful use of pattern, texture and accessories to help define the room and to create dialogue between the various pieces of furniture and areas in the room. I noticed the drapery rod that moves with the french door! Nice touch!

I appreciate also seeing the floor plan, it gives a great overview. The room is filled with love & light. Fabulous.
I would like to know what curtain rods you used over the doors, it looks like they open out?
    Thanks for sharing your work.

  13. I also love before and after stories, as they really show how far an interior has come. Congratulations on an amazing transformation.
