Q:

Tobi,
My husband and I recently bought our first sofa and chair.  Together we had been searching for a long time.  We settled on the Pauline Sofa and chair from Z Gallerie.  With the excitement of that purchase, the missing piece seems to be a rug.  I’ve never purchased a rug before and I feel overwhelmed.  Please help!

Andrea,
Thanks for writing me with your question!  I’ve got a few great suggestions to bring a punch of color and pattern into your space.

Your sofa from Z Gallerie has a straightforward look.  Transitional and neutral.  This gives us lots of room to work with when selecting a rug and accessories.

I love bold graphics and color.  This smashing “Terrene” rug from Shop Ten 25 could really set the tone for fantastic color story in your room.  You’ll probably want to go with the 8×10 size.  A rug thats too small really won’t give your room what it needs.  My advice is to select the largest rug your room will accomodate.  Getting your furniture to sit on top of the rug instead of “hanging off” is ideal.

Don’t forget about accenting your sofa with some color!  These orange linen beauties from Lacefield Designs with twill tape would look great!

Here’s a peek at what your room could look like.  I hope this helps!
