So many of our favorite holiday memories are made and shared in the dining room. This room is saved for special occasions in many of our homes and commands a reverence that other rooms lack. Whether your home is rustic, modern or traditonal, the American dining room always has an air of sophistication. Today I’ll show you a few of my very favorites.

What comes to mind when you think of the American dining room? - Tobi
p.s. Here’s a little glimpse of a dining room I designed for a client who loves a glamorous look:

With the addition of the word “American” your question becomes quite interesting and thought provoking, Tobi.
I immediately think of the Colonies and the influence of English design and architecture on our early history. I have at times wondered what our architecture would look like, if the French had won the French & Indian War. It surly would be different! I think of Winterthur and Beauport with their classic early American interiors. Here in Salem, I think of the beautiful homes designed and built by Samuel McIntire, with their lighter scale Federal Period detailing.
Rereading this, I guess I haven’t directly answered your question but it has brought something else to mind – Thanksgiving, which is a uniquely American Holiday. It has evoloved since the days of our early settlers and the Pilgrims, but I think the essence is still the same. The gathering of family and friends around the table and taking the time to be together, to be thankful, to count our blessings and to look around the table and be thankful that we have each other.
Thanks for your timely question!
Cheers,
John
Pretty, pretty, pretty! I love the twig chandelier in the last pic!
