Before & After: Energy House Desk and Chair

The Energy House Showhouse that I recently completed provided me with a fun opportunity to give new life to some not-so-new pieces.

One such piece…this Queen Anne desk circa 1985.

I knew this old desk had great potential.  Just look at those great cabriole legs.  It was a little beat up but that was nothing a fresh coat of paint couldn’t remedy.

For all of the Energy House painting projects I chose Sherwin-Williams’ Harmony interior acrylic latex.  Harmony paint is low odor and is safe for the environment.  It even has anti-microbial properties.

To pair up with the desk, I found this lovely, curvy vintage chair at a local antique mall that was a great candidate for a makeover.

As you can see, the result was stunning.  I used the same aqua paint from the channel back chairs on the desk chair and went a bit bolder on the desk.  The chair’s seat was reupholstered with a remnant trellis-patterned fabric.  Can’t you just imagine sitting here and writing letters the old fashioned way?

More Energy House features soon…

  1. That is simply gorgeous. I didn’t see the name of the paint color. I’d love to know what it’s called.

It’s truly amazing what a simple coat of paint can do.

  2. I love the color. Very clever! Some of my favorite finds are from tj maxx with a can of spray paint! ( for fun not clients though!!)

I am a HUGE fan of paint. The right color can change the face of just about anything. What amuses me is how scared some people are to take a desk like you have here and paint it at all…some people just cannot handle painting “wood” a color!!!

Such an ordinary desk turned fabulous! What a facelift!

  7. I love this transformation Tobi! There are so many great deals at local antique shops. It is amazing what a good can of paint can do to just about anything! Great color combination too!

  8. Beautiful colors! I’m usually drawn to neutral colors, but this combination is very pretty.

I want to do my desk and side table in this color finish. email me at secret513@aol.com. thank you, would like to start this project as soon as possible.
