2010 Year in Review

Posted by

As I do each year on this day, I am once again reviewing the many blessing I have received over the past 12 months. And as I say each and every year, they are too many to count or to mention.  I am such a lucky girl! It’s actually pretty great to look back year after year and see all the wonderful things that have come my way. You should really try this little exercise in celebrating your accomplishments!

But just before the calendar rolls into a new year, here are a few of the highlights of 2010. It is certainly a year that I will never forget.

2010 started off with a bang when just 6 weeks into 2010 this fabulous cover of House Beautiful hit my mailbox! What an opportunity to be on the cover of one of Stephen Drucker’s last issues of this amazing magazine. A huge thank you goes out to Mr. Drucker, my kind friend and now EIC Newell Turner and the talented Robert Rufino who styled the shoot. And how could I forget Jennifer who helped make it all come together. I am forever grateful.

Not long after, I had the lovely experience of being a guest on The Skirted Roundtable.  Boy, what a fun gig that was.  Jonie, Linda, Megan and I talked into the wee hours of the night and it truly felt like I had known them forever. Thanks ladies of the roundtable for inviting me to have a seat! It was an honor.

A little listing as one of HGTV.com’s favorite blogs (along with some amazing company) was a treat in the Spring.

Making the cover of House Beautiful Turkey was fun especially since I found out they rarely use the same covers as the American issue.

And a big highlight of the year for me, was designing a table at the Lenox Hill Gala in New York chaired by my friend Christopher.  The gala honored design great Albert Hadley and I got the wonderful opportunity to meet Mr. Hadley at the event.  Now that’s one I’ll tell my daughter when she grows up!

April was a busy month with a trip to Highpoint that included being part of the WITHIT competitive intelligence panel with a few other noteworthy friends in the industry.

At some point this year,  a Before and After Decorating book by Better Homes and Gardens hit my desk with several of my projects in it.  These projects were photographed years ago, so what a treat that the book finally came to fruition.

And in May I had two exciting new gigs! First we launched the online part of Tobi Fairley Design called InBox Interiors.  And around this same time, I landed a regular monthly spot on KATV Channel 7, our local ABC affiliate, called Design Time with Tobi Fairley.

Summer was busy with travel and more. Shelterpop was kind enough to include me in their July 4th lineup in a post called American Style Defined.

I launched my first Design Camp to a sold out crowd and paired it with a month of design camp fun on my blog.

And I penned my first post as The Traveling Designer for At Home in Arkansas’s blog. Then I jetted off to Vegas to be part of a discussion panel along with some of my favorite blogger and designer friends.

Upon my return I was greeted with my cover feature on the August issue of At Home in Arkansas.

And later in the month, my little blog got a face-lift.

Labor Day was celebrated in New York thanks to my keynote address at the Business of Design Conference.

The very next week it was off to Richmond for the debut of my room in the Richmond Symphony Orchestra Showhouse and the first glimpse at my new line of fabrics. An added bonus was that this great project ended up in the Washington Post!

Next up was a fun little quote in Southern Living’s issue celebrating what it means to be from the South and I rolled into year 2 of my Tobi’s Tips design column for AY Magazine (boy how time flies when you’re writing about design!)

September also brought with it a nomination for Amazon.com’s Magazine Cover of the Year for my House Beautiful March Cover. We didn’t win (all you Twilight lovers picked Harper’s Bazaar), but what an honor to even be nominated!

And what a special privilege to be included in the inaugural issue of Rue Magazine. Thanks ladies for thinking me worthy!

Rolling into the home stretch for 2010 was a busy as ever with a gorgeous before and after feature in At Home in Arkansas’s October issue that garnered rave reviews from House of Turquoise and Hooked on Houses.

My designs for the March of Dimes Energy House were the Green Space feature in Traditional Home.

And my sweet friend Brian, wrote a wonderful piece about me on HGTV’s blog called Small Town Girl, Big City Style. Thank you my dear, you are too kind!

Just before Thanksgiving I had even more to be thankful for with this Holiday Spread in AY,

inclusion in House Beautiful’s Entertaining Issue and the 101 Party do’s and don’ts.

And my major labor of love came together with my new website design.

To round out this stellar year, December included a mention for InBox Interiors in House Beautiful,

my first (but not my last) blogging camp, and the quiet launch of my new design management consulting services that are getting revved up for 2011.

Whew, what a year it was!

A special thank you goes out to my loving and supportive family, my dedicated staff, my amazing clients, House Beautiful, Southern Living, Traditional Home, At Home in Arkansas, Rue Magazine, KATV, AY Magazine, the Washington Post, the Richmond Symphony Orchestra committee and designers, all those involved with the Energy House, my super blog and web designer Thomas, the lovely ladies at The Skirted Roundtable, Jennifer Boles, Brian Flynn, Christopher Spitzmiller, Nancy Nolan, Rett Peek, John Major, Werner Straub, WITHIT, Jackie Von Tobel, Editor at Large, David Shepherd, Better Homes and Gardens, Shelterpop, my amazing design camp alumni, Given Campbell, all of my many, many designer friends who have been featured on my blog or written guest posts for me, Hooked on Houses, House of Turquoise and the numerous other bloggers who have been so kind to feature me this year. I have tried to thank you all throughout the year, but if I have missed any of you then or now, please know that I truly appreciate all of the support that I get each and everyday from so many people most of whom I know but many who I don’t.

It is because of you all that I am inspired to keep doing what I do. So thank you, thank you, thank you from the bottom of my heart!

And here’s to a prosperous 2011 for us all…Cheers!
