Top Ten Benches

Posted by

I have been so busy that I haven’t posted one of my popular Top Ten Features since March. So I am squeezing one in this June just in the nick of time. I love multi-purpose and “floating” pieces of furniture! They maximize seating in small or large spaces. I often use benches for this reason. Here are ten of my favorites! Enjoy!!!

10. The San Marino by Hickory Chair

9. Barbara Barry’s Slipper Bench for Henredon. I love the feminine detailing!

8. The Donghia Versailles

7. Jonathan Adler’s X Bench…I use this ALL the time! Great as a pair at the foot of a bed or tucked under a console!!

6. Oly Studio’s Hilary. It comes in short and long. I use the short most often!!

5. The Julien by Dessin Fournir is simple and architectural…so sophisticated!

4. The Cluny by Hickory Chair is a Fave!! I love the standard length. It’s great at the foot of a king bed. And now that Hickory Chair has the made to measure program and so many finishes the possibilities are endless! I even have this in my own bedroom!

3. Thomas Pheasant’s Rolled-Arm Bench by Baker is gorgeous!! I have been using it for years!

2. H-Studio’s Majestic Bench. I am a big Fan of Lucite and love the curved legs of this bench. You may remember it from my showhouse feature in Traditional home in 2008.

1. My very favorite bench in the world (drum roll please)…Jan Shower’s X bench the Claudette!! It is so pretty and graceful and yes expensive but I adore it!!!!

  1. Tobi all of these are pretty pricey; fabulous but pricey. You must be doing well durning this recession! LOL Im lucky if I can get a client to agree to a TJMAXX bench these days, hahaha. Absolutely sumptuous!

Yes You’re right Amanda…they are pricey! A girl can dream right?? 🙂

But I have to say that I am very grateful for the wonderful amount of business I have had during this recession!! I have great clients who have allowed me to proceed with their fabulous projects!! I just tell them they are doing their part to keep the economy going! 🙂

Glad you liked the post! I usually try to have a more varied range of price points and will try to do better next time! As always, thanks for your input!! It makes my blog better!! xo Tobi

  3. Tobi, all of these are wonderful. My personal faves are #4, and #1. Any one of these would be beautiful in so many rooms, this is what makes a bench a great piece, you can use them in so many different ways, and switch them from room to room. Thanks for sharing this great line up!

  4. Rebecca says:

I love the Cluny too! So classic and it would look great in my room! Great choices.

  5. So glad to hear you are doing good! We must encourage everyone to stimulate the economy and you are doing your part. Im fortunate to be doing well but on a lesser degree, ahem, cheaper less expensive avenue these days. My area is VERY conservative and they are holding onto their cash because the sky may fall out! LOL!!

Tobi, thanks for introducing me to the fabulous H-Studio! I am a lover of (most) things Lucite but somehow have never heard of this lovely company. Appreciate the tip!

  7. Tobi, what wonderful benches, thanks for sharing them all. I must say my favorite is the one that you have in your own home, beautiful.

  8. I have to agree with you – Jan’s bench is perfection! What a lovely group you’ve assembled. Nothing beats a classic x-form bench for me. And Jan’s is so glamorous. Chic, chic, chic!!!
