As part of my year-long entertainment series with At Home in Arkansas, I hosted a spooky event for guests both young, and not-so-young. Trick-or-treating is always better with caramel apples and a bubbly green cocktail. And I’ve even got a few ideas for you to dress up your home this Halloween.
Each year, I put up a Halloween display in my entry. I purchased this black flocked tree about 10 years ago and it helps me create a fun and spooky holiday feeling right when you walk in. A plethora of other Halloween haunts including skeletons sliding down the banister, our very real-looking Cat, Pandora, and all of the candy and treats a kid could ever want make the entry magical.
The more variety in my treats, the more excited my guests. For this party I went all out–rock candy, sugar cookies, traditional candy corn, gumballs, gummy worms, cupcakes, caramel apples and for those who needed a break from the “sweets overload” we had a few savory snacks, too! Large plastic apothecary jars made the candy look even more special, but we didn’t have to worry if little hands dropped a lid–these jars are shatterproof. My collection of cake stands always play a role in making my food look special, too, and they are as much a part of the decor as they are functional serving pieces.
I think you can never have too many pumpkins and gourds this time of year. Big and small, they are great for layering into my entry display and also can be found surrounding my front door and making an appearance in our wet bar where more food and beverage is served.
My Halloween party wasn’t only about treats for the younger crew. I served an adults-only green Witches’ Brew cocktail complete with floating eyeballs
To decorate the rest of the wet bar, I use an assortment of glass containers to hold different potions and concoctions along with an eclectic mix of skull votive holders, and creatures of the night!
