How many of you are living AND working your passion? If so, you are definitely some of the lucky ones. It is amazing how many people go to jobs they don’t love, work with clients that don’t inspire them, and come home to a life that is less than their dreams.
But the good news is that all of these things are under our control. No really…they are. I know that many of you will tell yourself that isn’t true, but if you were REALLY honest with yourself, you’d admit that you get to decide where you work, with whom you work and how you live your life.
We spend a lot of time in life pretending like we don’t have a choice. We come up with a million excuses of why we “can’t” have the life or the job of our dreams because often choosing what we really want, is really scary. Choosing what we say we want, makes us step (or leap) outside of our comfort zone and take big risks.
But we know that big risks equal big rewards, right? And you can’t keep one foot on the dock and set sail at the same time.
So after 15 years of working in design, I decided this year that I want to work in my passion. Now don’t get me wrong, Interior Design has been my passion for 15 years and I have really loved it, still do! But as you grow and change, so does your passion, right? So now I am ready to take my 15-year old profession (Interior Design) into alignment with my newer 3-year old business venture (business and life coaching), so that I am doing interiors and coaching for people who are aligned with my life’s philosophies of health, wellness, self-care, spirituality and enlightenment. THIS is my passion and I have such a renewed energy for creating interiors to support people’s healthy way of life both mentally and physically.
So now I create visionary, but practical, interiors inspired by my clients’ own personalities and needs through bright, bold and tailored designs. My specialty is working with enlightened, family-focused entrepreneurs and spiritual thought-leaders around the globe to create luxury interior spaces that are as forward-thinking as they are. And although I’ve worked with a lot of high-profile clients, you don’t have to be a celebrity to work with me. My approach is down-to-earth and because I have an MBA, my eye is always on the bottom line.
Ahhhh…that feels so good. An authentic business approach that fulfills my passion in all areas (design and consulting) and can seamlessly transition into my life.
Back in January my actual resolution read like this…”Starting now, I
want to will work with design clients (AND consulting clients) whose life’s philosophy is aligned with my philosophy of inspired living, inspired working and self-care. I am so passionate about my way of living and it just can’t be separated from my work. I want to create spaces that support inspired living for others, designed right down to the tiny details that allow them to savor their life’s moments too. I want to create Inspiration for the Business of Design and I want to design inspired businesses, so other creatives can live a life of meaning and purpose while achieving their dreams. Inspired Design.”
So I have been hard at work designing my new business approach since January. I am moving into my new “niche” in design with ease and will soon be launching new branding, an all-new website and lots of information that will catapult me into my new design philosophy in a big way. But don’t worry…you’ll still get the bright, bold and tailored part of me you’ve always loved. Can’t you just envision a “Tobi-ized” meditation room? I can!
My business consulting clients have been moving full throttle towards building inspired businesses and lives for the past three years when I began my consulting venture, so this philosophy is not new to them. And I get the joy each day of working in my sweet spot with these talented and enlightened designers, manufacturers and creatives for which I am so grateful! It is some of the most fulfilling work that I do!
So what about you? Are you afraid to move into your sweet spot in your business and life? Are you willing to take a big risk and start working in your passion? What’s stopping you? If I had a guess it would be that fears of all sorts are holding you back.
So here are my top 3 tips for squashing that fear and moving into a business and a life that is authentically you…
1. Ask yourself what’s the worst that can happen? Typically our absolute worst nightmare if we follow our dreams isn’t really catastrophic if we really think about it. We could survive it. And we could always go right back to doing what we do now if we had to, right? Plus, what are the chances that our worst nightmare will come true anyway? I’d say slim to none.
2. Show me the love…Yes, there it is. My favorite topic of Self Care. If you aren’t being kind to yourself, getting the proper sleep, food, exercise and relaxation, you will never be in a state that will allow you to take big risks. You’ll be stuck in fear and unable to see that proverbial forest for all those trees. So take some time to get yourself in “the zone”. Do whatever it take for you to be at your best, so you can make the best decisions for moving into your passion!
3. Create some security. And I don’t mean the financial type (although working in your true passion will create that too). I mean create a nest or sanctuary in your home, a place where you can relax and clear your head, where you feel most safe and secure. Where you can get perspective and clarity on what you really want in life. A place that is nurturing to your soul and your mind. Clutter, things, “stuff”, and life’s activity can really weigh you down mentally. You need to be free to think without interruption. So what does a sanctuary look like to you?Create one and do your strategic planning there and I bet you’ll move closer to living and working in your passion!
You can do this. And it will be SOOOOO worth the risk. There’s nothing better than working in your sweet spot. And while you are thinking about making a big leap…here are a few inspiring interiors that speak to me and inspire my new design “niche”.
Maybe your sanctuary is a neutral chic retreat…
Or a hip island getaway…
Or maybe it’s a sophisticated urban oasis…
Whatever your style, can you create a home environment that makes you more healthy, relaxed, and at peace so you are at your best and can make decisions that support your dream life? And can you start today living and working in your passion. Don’t wait another minute. Life really is short!
