KATV’s Design Time with Tobi Fairley: What’s Hot in Paints!

Posted by

I want to thank everyone for tuning in to watch Design Time with Tobi Fairley on KATV’s Good Morning Arkansas this morning.  As promised, I am posting all those design tips you need to add color to your home with the hottest in paint color trends.  I’ve got fun, easy and affordable ideas to make your home look fabulous!

The first project we talked about was rehabbing an old chair with a fab color.  This dated find had great bones and was in need of a makeover.  I used Sherwin-Williams SW 6744 Reclining Green.  For the accompanying desk I used SW6745 Lark Green.  An accent color that was used in the space was SW6620 Rejuvenate.

This chair and desk combo turned out beautifully.  F. Schumacher’s Imperial Trellis II in Mandarin/Ivory was used to upholster the seat.  It adds a nice pop of contrasting color!

Here’s a look at the inspiration board I showed on the air.  When you’re working on your own projects, have a plan and be brave with color!  You won’t be disappointed with the results.

The second project featured was these little guys.  They are vintage cast-iron stands for wood burning stoves.  Landon, who works in my design studio, found these in the barn at his farm.  He thought they would make perfect footstools for use indoors or out by adding a simple upholstered top.  After cleaning them thoroughly, they were primed and painted.  Indoor/outdoor fabric on the new top provides durability.

The footstool was painted a vibrant red, Sherwin-Williams SW7588 Show Stopper, to coordinate with the navy/ivory striped fabric found at a local discount store.  The red and navy combo provides a crisp and casual look for summer.  Red and blue inspired interiors are also a hot color trend at the moment.

Here’s a look at the color board I showed on the air.  You don’t have to stick with just one shade of red or blue.  You can mix it up and go lighter and darker to add some interest to your color story!

If too much color on the walls is a bit outside of your comfort zone, try a neutral wall and use these bright and trendy colors as accents for furniture and other elements in the room.

For a Warm Neutral try Benjamin Moore’s Spendor (AF-385) with Vapor (AF-35) as a trim color.

For a cooler neutral, Pashmina (AF-100) is a nice Taupe tone and pairs well with etiquette (AF-50) for trim.

For a lighter wall color,Jute  (AF-80) is a versatile Beige shade that will work great with either of these trim colors.

All of these colors are part of Benjamin Moore’s Affinity Colors collection.  Even a novice DIY-type can choose colors confidently.  Each of the 144 colors in this collection work with all the others.  You could blindly select three of the colors and they would work together.  How amazing is that?  Talk about giving those of you who aren’t designers some color confidence!

What a gorgeous, gorgeous desk! I wonder if there’s a knotty-pine-nightmare now on Craigslist that could be similarly transformed?

  10. Tobi….that chair and desk took my breath away! Honestly…they are just simply perfect! I am in the middle of re-vamping a set of dining room chairs, and have used the same trellis fabric except in navy. I can’t wait to get this finished! I love how you used a lighter shade of turquoise for the chair. It looks amazing. Thank you for inspiring me, yet again!
