Home, Redefining Success

Living and Working Without Regrets

I want you to LOVE your life… which is why today today, we’re talking about the top five regrets of the dying.

Stick with me. I guarantee this will be the most profound thing you hear today (maybe all week).

You may have heard of a woman named Bronnie Ware. She’s an Australian palliative nurse whose job was to take care of people during the last three months of their life. Intense, right?

Bronnie wrote a book about her experience, and as part of her research she interviewed every single person she was taking care of. During these interviews, she asked them what regrets they had and what they would do differently in their life.

This is what they said.

The top five regrets of the dying:

  1. I wish I had the courage to live a life true to myself, not the life others expected of me.
  2. I wish I hadn’t worked so hard.
  3. I wish I had the courage to express my feelings.
  4. I wish I had stayed in touch with my friends.
  5. I wish I had let myself be happier.

You might notice that not a single one of those things aligns with the definition of success we’ve been force fed.

Not a single one of those things aligns with what we think we’re working for when we’re on the hustle bus (which more often than not feels like the struggle bus).

I’m not sharing this to depress you or encourage you to take a vow of poverty and abandon all your big dreams. I’m sharing this because I don’t want you to devote your days, nights, and weekends to working so hard that you end up with some of these regrets.

Instead, let’s build a business and a life that allows health, wealth, and joy to coexist.

This is one of the realizations that inspired Maria Videla, CEO of The Art of Room Design, to join DesignYou. She was living in a state of pure overwhelm, often working after her family had gone to sleep and still not making enough revenue to feel financially secure.

“I can’t keep going on like this,” she thought. “I need to be a good example for my kids. I don’t want them to see me working until all hours of the night and think that’s the only way to make money.”

She joined our signature program, DesignYou, in hopes of finding a better way. She set aside 30 minutes a day to watch the trainings and recorded video calls, and implemented what she was learning.

After just a few months, Maria started to see results.

She gained the confidence to…

  • clear her schedule
  • change her pricing structure
  • regain clarity
  • and say NO to projects that were soul-sucking and not driving revenue

As a result, Maria’s revenue has skyrocketed, but she’s working fewer hours than ever.

“In half a year, I made as much as I’d made the entire previous year.”

Even more important than the amazing financial growth she’s experienced is the freedom she now has to spend her precious time exactly how she wants.

This is what I wish for you and every other creative entrepreneur out there who’s burning the candle at both ends in hopes that “someday” they’ll achieve success and be able to enjoy their life.

Screw “someday.” Let’s start today.

Maybe your first step is joining us inside DesignYou (or at the very least checking out all the program details).

Maybe it’s simply shutting down your laptop on a Friday and not opening it until Monday morning for the first time in forever.

Whatever you decide, I only ask that you take some time to really reflect on what you genuinely want your life to look like (not what other people say it should look like).
