Before and After: My Dining Room

Posted by

I love entertaining and hosting dinner parties for my friends and family. It gives me a chance to serve up some of my favorite meals, try new recipes, and show them my new dining room. And now that it’s Christmas season, this room has really gotten a lot of use.

But enough about entertaining, let’s talk about my dining room decor. I love creating unique color combinations for my clients and my own home. So when deciding on my new dining space, I went with a bit of an unconventional color scheme that I think really paid off.

So before I show you the finished product, let’s look at what this space started out as. The previous owner used this room as a study instead of a dining room, but its long, rectangular shape lends itself to my large oval dining table much better. And while I love the 90’s hunter green that is making a comeback in interior design, this shade didn’t hit the mark for my family and me! It made the room extremely dark and dreary.

I lightened the entire space with fresh pink and bright yellow floral wallpaper topped with a soft petal pink ceiling! I couldn’t resist the drama of that Clarke & Clarke wallpaper and pulling out those pops of yellow with the Jan Showers lamps and the silk drapery panels that are sort of yellow and sort of Chartreuse. There’s even a tiny splash of chartreuse bordering my gray “Logo Grand” rug from my line with New River Artisans!

This before shot towards the foyer shows the old french doors that I removed to make the dining room feel more inviting as guests entered our house. The doors seemed to say “keep out” to me and my dining room is one of the main spaces I want my guests to feel welcome and at home.

And as I said before, this room was super dark but not only because of the paint. There is only one window in this room, on the front of the house, but I had a solution for more natural light. See that dark corner below?

Well, it now is the home of a fabulous upholstered door with an oval window that allows natural light to flood in from the kitchen and the sunroom on the back of the house. Interestingly, when I opened up the wall to add the door, there was a header there already, indicating that there had been a door here previously and someone decided to close it up.

Isn’t that pale blue upholstered door with polished nickel nails super chic? And here are a few more lovely views of this space from other angles…

For me, no detail is too small when setting the perfect tablescape, or when it comes to designing a home for you and your family! And I feel the same way about designing the perfect home full of gorgeous design and lots of love for my own family.

And I try equally hard when entertaining guests.

So I hope you love this decor and entertaining inspiration.  I’m off to get my tables ready for my Christmas guests. But stay tuned for the next blog post in my Before & After series coming soon.

It’s amazing how much hard work goes into designing products. It starts with an idea or inspiration, then drawings, schematics, material selections, tweaks and changes, and then finally production. I have loved seeing each one of my designs become reality with my partner companies: CR Laine, Duralee, Woodbridge, and Soicher Marin.

But do you know what is REALLY a dream come true? When you see those designs on retail floors all around the country or in people’s actual homes! That is AH-MAZING! And I love it even more when retailers and designers share those photos with me on Instagram. With all the variations and customizations available from each of my partners, there are some fabulous looks being created with my designs.

It’s really special when a retailer gets so excited that they can’t wait to show you what they’ve unwrapped, like when the retailer posted the photo below on Instagram.

And then there are the designers who have put my products into their clients’ homes – it is SO exciting to see what they choose and how they use them.

A custom green color makes my art for Soicher Marin the perfect fit in my own client’s home.

Once my Duralee fabrics are officially on the market next month, I can’t wait to see how retailers, designers, and consumers will want to use them for their own projects and designs!

So to everyone who has supported me and my partner companies – thank you for making my dream come true! And keep showing me your fabulous photos on Instagram by tagging me with @tobifairley!

The High Point of the Year

Posted by

The High Point Market is an incredible trade show for designers and retailers – showcasing the best of home furnishings and marking the new trends that you’ll see in your home in the coming months. I have loved shopping at the show every April and October for the past 15 years, and it is such a dream come true to now be showing my own furniture designs, like the pieces you see above in the CR Laine showroom!

Last month, I had a brand new collection launch with Woodbridge Furniture, another amazing partner that produces beautiful, high-quality furniture. That’s my London drop-leaf table in the showroom above, part of my new collection! It’s great as a console and opens into a 58″x78″ dining table. Plus it looks gorgeous with the art above which is from my Soicher Marin collection. And check out the fabulous brass claw holding an acrylic ball on that table!

Woodbridge also perfectly created my design vision in the brushed brass Pierce table with a custom logo motif in the center. I loved it when I designed it, but it’s just so much better in real life! This was my very favorite piece from my collections this market.

I had an amazing time with color and pattern in the CR Laine showroom, too, particularly with my “catty” version of the Elle chair in the fabric “Cattitude”. I launched the Elle last April but I think it looks completely different in this glamorous fabric. What do you think?

And I loved using my Soicher Marin collection of art to complement the vignettes in CR Laine, like the one below that features my Taylor sectional and the stunning Stella screens with my exclusive logo motif in nailhead trim.

I hope you’ve enjoyed this peek into some of the new products you’ll see soon in stores and design studios! Let me know what you think in the comments section below, and stay tuned for more photos in future blog posts!

My Art in Restoration Hardware!

I was so thrilled to see my art collection for Soicher Marin featured in the new RH Modern catalog from Restoration Hardware, which just dropped! It’s amazing to be included in a catalog that’s shipped to so many around the country – and my art is also featured in Restoration Hardware’s flagship stores in New York, Beverly Hills, and Tampa!

Screen Shot 2015-10-28 at 8.59.04 AM

I recently talked about how I love to mix modern art, like the series I designed above, with traditional furnishings, but obviously they are the perfect complement to Resto’s modern furnishings.

The large framed piece above is one of my favorites! I recently used it in the Woodbridge showroom at the High Point Market, too.

If you had sharp eyes, you also saw the art I designed above in the CR Laine showroom at the October High Point Market, paired with a partner piece that goes with it.

The series of art I designed above on the left is a fun free-form series that I created especially for the Restoration Hardware launch. And of course the geometric series above right is one that I have also created in pink and blue. But I really love it in the classic B&W!

I’m so excited that my designs are beginning to hit retail floors, catalogs, and people’s homes! There’s more to come soon, and I can’t wait to share it with you!

My New Partner: Woodbridge Furniture

I am so happy to announce that I will have a new furniture collection with Woodbridge Furniture that will debut at the October High Point Market! The Tobi Fairley for Woodbridge line will launch with a great introduction of 10-12 pieces this fall, and a larger collection will be introduced at the April 2016 Market. The Tobi Fairley for Woodbridge Collection will include a selection of case goods from side tables and dining tables to desks, chests, consoles and dining chairs.

The Ellison Cocktail Table from the Tobi Fairley for Woodbridge Collection

This may not be a big surprise to some of you if you were at the High Point Market last April. We tested a couple of my designs with Woodbridge, like the blush and charcoal Ellison cocktail table with the gold leaf border that you can see in the photos above. Isn’t it gorgeous? And how about the table I designed below with the green top and curvy legs? This fun piece with a matching console and cocktail version will be available in a variety of colors. The best part is Woodbridge allowed me to bring my creative vision to pieces I couldn’t find out in the marketplace. And I think Woodbridge really knocked it out of the park creating them for me, don’t you?

You know I love to work with partners who are collaborative and share a vision that we’re both ready to work hard to execute – and the Woodbridge team is exactly that type of partner. Co-founders Watts Humphrey and Kevin Hinshaw are fantastic guys to work with, and their young company is really a hidden gem that offers incredible quality and expertise! The vision I’ll bring to our partnership is fashion-forward design that fits the way people want to live today. It’s a win-win!

Another of my “test tables” that I designed with Woodbridge.

The Woodbridge designs will also coordinate fantastically with my upholstery collection for CR Laine and my artwork for Soicher Marin. And the wood pieces will really round out my licensed lines. It brings my dream of a full Tobi Fairley licensed home group closer to coming true! Stay tuned for more!

And come see me at the High Point Market this fall – we’ll have a lot to show you!
