Posted by

Modern design enthusiasts may think they will only find “big city” style in places like New York, Los Angeles, or Chicago. But you can get the chic and sleek look you crave, no matter where you live.

Right here in Little Rock, Ark., I harnessed that city style for my Riverside Penthouse project, and I’m going to show you exactly how you can use these ideas to give your space a modern look and feel.

That entryway is metro marvelous! Here’s another look at a few tips that will give you a lot of big city style:

  1. Think glam: A velvet and vinyl banquette will definitely add that sophisticated city look to your home. It’s perfect for entertaining or having a few friends over for cocktails.
  2. A gorgeous marbelized wall covering in every shade of blue from cobalt to ink will make your space feel penthouse perfect. And it offers ready-made art, as well!
  3. Black-and-white striped marble floors would make a jailhouse rock – and the high-gloss makes them super-chic.
  4. Blue suede doors would make Elvis proud – add some glass doorknobs and they are definitely fit for a King.

A great city view is a bonus, but even if you live in the suburbs, these tips will help you feel like you’re living large in the big city.

Stay colorful!

So many things inspire the color palette for a room, from art to fabrics to wallpaper. And wallpaper is exactly where I found the gorgeous hunter green for the painted walls in this penthouse dining room!

This custom de Gournay wallpaper is just stunning! My client absolutely fell in love with it, and it inspired all the other colors in the room, including the Sherwin-Williams hunter green paint color called Rookwood Sash.

I love this shade of green, and it was the perfect complement to the wallpaper, so I used it on the other walls in the space. The mix of color and pattern makes this a very fashion-forward dining room, perfect for my hip and chic client!

Do you like hunter green? Where would you use this color in your home? Let me know in the comments section below!

Tobi TV: The Butler’s Pantry

Posted by

Tobi-TV-logo-600x332We can’t all live a life that affords us the luxury of having a butler, but a luxury you CAN afford is a butler’s pantry. Historically, a butler’s pantry is where a butler made quick meals and sandwiches, cleaned silver, and sometimes even slept.

Nowadays, even in homes without a butler, butler’s pantries are usually located in transitional spaces between kitchens and dining rooms, and are used as staging areas for serving meals. They usually have countertops, perhaps an additional sink, and storage for tableware, serving platters, table linens, candles, wine, and other things you’ll need to entertain in your dining room.

A butler’s pantry doesn’t have to be huge or take up a lot of space. You can even add this lovely luxury to a corner of your kitchen. Here are my tips for making a butler’s pantry work for you!

Let’s recap those great tips for a butler’s pantry:

1. Make your butler’s pantry pop with colored cabinets like a fun teal or with brass shelving to really shine!

2. Even a small butler’s pantry will look larger with a mirrored back.

3. Marble countertops and great hardware really bring in the luxury for an expensive looking butler’s pantry.

I hope these tips served you well! Let me know in the comments below how you’d serve up this fabulous space in your home!
