Book Review: An Eye for Beauty by Beth Webb

Posted by

It’s time for holiday shopping to commence and thankfully it’s that time of year when many gorgeous design and architecture books hit stores. I am excited to tell you about the new (and first) book by amazing Atlanta Interior Design Beth Webb and it would make a fabulous stocking stuffer or hostess gift for the design lovers on your list. This book brilliantly highlights her designs as “Rooms That Speak to the Senses”, one of the keystones of Beth’s design philosophy. Evident on the beautiful glossy pages, is that Beth creates homes that evoke timeless style while speaking to the five senses. Throughout this glorious oversized book, Beth walks you through how each design element, both tangible and visible, add to the overall aesthetic of the space as well as the well-being and evolution of those living there. This concept so resonates with my focus on well-being and self care and Beth’s work on these lovely pages gave me a whole new appreciation for softer palettes and layered textures.

Beth is a master with a neutral color palette, blending natural elements that are warm and inviting. Can you imagine sitting in this living room looking out of the beautiful wood double doors to that gorgeous greenery beyond? The mix of texture is so rich and delicious and is such a seamless transition to nature and the outdoors. One couldn’t help but be well and vibrant in Beth’s creations.

I also love how original art is used in Beth’s work throughout the book to infuse spaces with such calm color and unique style! Her rooms provide the perfect backdrop to display carefully curated collections, like this pretty grouping of plates. All of Beth’s designs focus on chic neutral or soft color palettes with meticulously layered textures to keep the space comfortable and natural, while able to withstand the tolls of everyday life.

I’ve known Beth personally for many years, and now with her first book, I’m very excited for you to see more of her work that spans from Atlanta to Costa Rica. I think you will fall in love with her designs as much as I have. Pick up a copy of her book, An Eye for Beauty: Rooms that Speak to the Senses, here for you or the design enthusiast on your shopping list!

Join me in a month of Gratitude

Posted by

Hello lovely readers!

You may have noticed that it’s been a few months since my last post.  I have been enjoying my life more than ever before. That’s right, this isn’t a post about how busy I’ve been, its a post about how happy I’ve been.

I started 2017 with a focus on Joy and this has definitely been my most joyful year yet. From finishing my home remodel and chronicling it all in my Traditional Home column (you’ll see the big reveal in Traditional Home in the next issue), to completing my first year of having my design studio in my home, to making my family and my marriage more of a priority than ever, 2017 has been one of my favorites and I have so very much to be grateful for.

And though I have have been enjoying life instead of blogging, that doesn’t mean that blogging is a thing of the past for me. I have actually been putting the finishing touches on a new website and blog that you will see before year end. It is a major overhaul to our online presence and incorporates many exciting additions to my design and consulting businesses. The new year will bring exciting growth for my company, especially online, and 2018 will mean you can get more access to my designs and my business, life and health coaching than ever before, all right from your computer. What’s even more exciting is if you haven’t worked with me in the past because of price, my new offerings will make my consulting and coaching work more accessible than ever.  And all these changes mean even more work-life balance for me, because more of me online means I can work from anywhere and work around putting my family and my health first. How can I not be grateful for that? Plus I’ll teach you have to have more work-life balance too.

So as November kicks off today, I am kicking off a focus in my own life on gratitude for all the things that are going so right, and for all the challenges that brought learning and growth this year. I already journal every day and my November journal will be full of thanksgiving for my loves and my life. I hope you will join me in this practice as this year comes to an end. Grab yourself a pretty notebook today and start making your list. Gratitude has a way of making what we already have more than enough. And I believe it will make the holiday season full of joy like only a gratitude practice can do.

If you want a reminder to start your day full of gratitude, you can get this pretty little print here. Happy November, my dears. I hope you spend the month counting all your blessings. I’ll be counting mine too.

Self-Care Saturday: Home Sweet Home

Posted by

homesweethome

Last week I asked if you were living the Dream and gave you my tips to help you make that happen. Today I want to remind you that sometimes the dream is right in front of your face.

For years I was busy building a BIG business and that takes a lot of time, energy and people to keep it all going. Going after your dreams like I have is exciting and rewarding. But sometimes the MOST fulfilling thing in life is not what you think. Often the most satisfying things are found in the ordinary, day-to-day, simple moments at home. That is definitely true for me.

elements

The older I get the more I enjoy Slow-living. I’ve always been a “Home Body” for the most part. I can travel the world during the week and then never leave my house (and sometimes not even my PJ’s) on the weekends.  I never get bored being at home. There is always something that I want to cook, or bake, or create, or a new design book to read or a blog to write, or a closet to organize. And a walk in my own beautiful neighborhood, breathing in the fresh air, is the pinnacle of a perfect Saturday.

My nine-year old is currently obsessed with the book the Wizard of Oz. She was even the cutest Dorothy you’ve ever seen for Halloween. And I have to agree with Dorothy that there is absolutely “No Place Like Home”.  My home may not be all renovated and gorgeous yet, but she serves my family and me just fine. She’s a workhorse, and she gives us what we need to meet the world at our best.

Thankfully this month I have been home a lot more than I was during most months last year. I am working hard to make being home a constant in my life…At least for a while. If you read my word of the year post, you’ll remember that my word is significance, and the most significant people and things in my life are right here at home.

cooking at home

And being a lover of cooking, nesting and reading by the fire, there’s not much else that equals self-care to me than time spent at home. So today I am grateful for many days this month that I’ve cooked 3 whole-food meals a day in my own kitchen. And I am thankful for waking many early mornings at 5am and holding my pup, drinking coffee by the fire and catching up on a bit of work. I am filled with joy over the simple things in my life–the ones right here in front of my face. At Home. They are what is most important.

Wishing you as much joy in your Home Sweet Home as I find in mine! I hope it’s the perfect place to fill your cup.
