Tobi TV: 5 Tips for Fun Kids Rooms with Personality

Posted by

Kids’ rooms are some of the most fun spaces to design in a home! I love to fill them with color and character to fit each child’s personality, which also gives them more ownership over their own space.

In my farmhouse project that’s featured in the April issue of Traditional Home, I had a lot of kids’ rooms to choose from! It was a blast to create individual spaces for a range of ages and personalities. In this Tip Clip from Traditional Home, I give you five great tips for designing fun and functional spaces for the children in your life!

Aren’t those fun rooms? Let’s take another look at my tips for creating fun kids’ spaces:

1. I had individual silhouettes created for each child in the family, and then hung the art next to each bedroom door. It was a great way to highlight every child in the family!

2. One young lady has a more tailored style, so I created a preppy room in green and blue to fit her personal look.

3. For a fashionista in the family, I added glamour with an unexpected color mix of purple and red!

4. Rustic touches and a blue and red palette set the perfect stage for an outdoorsy boy.

5. And I designed this little girl’s room in her favorite shade of pink, but kept it from being too sweet by adding in jadeite green!

Using colors, patterns, and ideas that fit each child’s personality gives them a space that’s definitely all their own! Let me know what you think in the comments section below!

Tobi TV: Adding a Touch of Glam

Posted by

I love a room that has a touch of glam. Oh, who am I kidding?! I love a fully glam room, too! But it’s a real balancing act to create a gorgeous room that has just the right touch of glitz without going too far over the top. Think about how glam translates in fashion – it’s really the same idea for interiors!

Those fab touches can add luxury and style to any room, but how do you keep that glam-quotient right where it needs to be? I’ve got some great tips that I love to use in the interiors I design – so let’s roll the video to see what they are!

Now those are some va-va-voom spaces, right?! That should give you some ideas from small glamorous additions to full-on Hollywood glitz! Let’s review them again:

1. Use sheen and shine, to reflect your glamorous side! Silver and gold metallic tones give a room that luxury, just like your jewelry is the finishing touch for your wardrobe. And remember that mirrors can also put a sparkle into any space!

2. Texture is so important for luxurious looks in a room. Think about velvets, plush chenilles, silks, and satins!

3. Leather is also key to giving a room the look and feel of a luxe life! Try to use leather in exciting colors other than black or brown for a true glam style – like blush, yellow, or lavender!

4. Is there anything more bewitching and glam than a lacquered ceiling? Well maybe snakeskin wallpaper and fur throws! Keeping the colors toned-down and monochromatic helps this mix of moxie stay fun and fabulous.

5. There’s nothing better than jewel tones for a glamorous color palette – especially when they evoke those sparklers that Elizabeth Taylor loved so much: pearls, sapphires, emeralds, amethyst, and rubies!

6. If you don’t want to commit to a lacquered ceiling, how about trying a metallic wallpaper up above? Or try sinuous shapes and bright colors to add that captivating charisma to a room!

Don’t you just love a glamorous life? Let me know how you use a little glam in your decor in the comments section below! And I’ll see you next time on Tobi TV!

That entryway is metro marvelous! Here’s another look at a few tips that will give you a lot of big city style:

1. Think glam: A velvet and vinyl banquette will definitely add that sophisticated city look to your home. It’s perfect for entertaining or having a few friends over for cocktails.

2. A gorgeous marbelized wall covering in every shade of blue from cobalt to ink will make your space feel penthouse perfect! And it is ready-made art, as well!

3. Black-and-white striped marble floors would make a jailhouse rock – and the high-gloss makes them super-chic.

4. Blue suede doors would make Elvis proud – add some glass doorknobs and they are definitely fit for a King!

Tobi TV: Fashionable Kitchens

Posted by

We’re in the middle of February’s usual Fashion Week extravaganza, with runways heating up in New York, Paris, London, and this week in Milan. I find a lot of inspiration on those runways, even for rooms like the kitchen where you can take your look from haute couture to haute cuisine.

The key to designing a fashion-forward and glamorous kitchen is to make the space feel luxurious and expensive while adding in some unexpected features that make it ahead of it’s time. Let’s take a look at one of my favorite haute kitchens!

Can you see why I love this kitchen? Let’s recap what really makes the design so fashionable:

1. Don’t be afraid to embrace Carrara marble countertops for a glamorous kitchen. Nothing is more beautiful, especially with a matching backsplash.

2. Tired of white kitchens? Try a shade of gray for your cabinetry and brass hardware for a fashion-forward look.

3. A sleek induction cooktop with a mirrored finish will add some high-tech shine to your haute couture kitchen.

4. Brass is back and really packs a punch for a glamorous kitchen! Try adding brass with a vent hood, hardware, or pendant lighting over the island.

5. Add something unexpected to your kitchen, like a library ladder to get to those hard-to-reach cabinets, or think about out-of-the-box ideas for seating.

Details really will pump up the glamour, so try these tips to make your kitchen runway ready. Let me know in the comments below how you are inspired by fashion in your home!

W & R’s High Style

Posted by

Everything about Ron Woodson and Jaime Rummerfield is high style. So what a perfect title for their fabulously sophisticated and glamorous book.

High Style isn’t simply a book about Interior Design, it is about so much more! For starters, High Style could be considered a guide to personal style. There is as much a statement about fashion in this gorgeous book as there is a testament to Hollywood interiors.

But don’t worry, High Style isn’t short on gorgeous and glamorous spaces.

In it you’ll find loads of lacquer, miles of mirror, and all thing necessary for W & R’s “Modage” decor.

And because Woodson and Rummerfield are designers to the stars, there is no shortage of celebrity projects in High Style.

You’ll find dramatic designs worthy of iconic status.

And memorable spaces fit for a Diva.

And the good news…with amazing projects like the home of Christina Aguilera in their recent repertoire,  W & R has plenty of material for Volume II.

They say there isn’t a new book in the works just yet, so when High Style leaves you wanting more, Woodson and Rummerfield’s Blog can keep you satisfied with new projects and inspirations.

And in my opinion Ron and Jaime need not be in too big of a rush for book #2, because High Style is so chock full of amazing interiors and gorgeous fashion, you can read it again and again and see something new every time.

So take my word for it, High Style is a must read! You can order a copy today from my Amazon store. And leave a comment here to enter to win an autographed copy.

A drawing for High Style will be held this Friday at noon Central Standard Time.  Good luck and stay tuned for more on the dynamic duo of Woodson and Rummerfield including an exciting podcast interview later this week.
