Before and After: Beautiful B&B

Posted by

There’s an amazing new bed and breakfast in High Point, N.C.! It’s called Pandora’s Manor and it’s owned by one of my favorite companies, Eastern Accents. They asked me and 5 other interior designers to revamp the bedrooms in the historic home, and given my love of traditional homes, I couldn’t wait to redesign my space!

Before we got started, the rooms had some amazing details that you see in so many historic homes, like the wood floors and a marble fireplace – I love a fireplace in a bedroom! But, also like a lot of older homes, things also looked a bit dated as families moved in and out and as tastes and trends changed.

One thing I knew I wanted to add was a WOW factor, but I still wanted to keep the traditional elements that I love so much. So I added wainscoting to the bottom of the walls, but gave those walls a more modern look with a deep black paint on the upper half. Then I layered in a bright yellow fabric in the draperies and upholstery, all from fabrics that are in my own collection for Duralee.

The room before was a little cramped with older furniture and upholstery, and I wanted to add glamour and a more modern look with my design for this bedroom.

My new Tilly chair for CR Laine really has that vintage look with a modern twist that I was searching for, so it was the perfect fit. And I was lucky enough to also be able to use pieces from my collections of art for Soicher Marin and tables and a desk from Woodbridge Furniture.

There is an attached bathroom for each of the bedrooms, so I also pulled in some of the design elements and colors from the bedroom into the bath.

I love a bold graphic wallpaper, and this black-and-white pattern was a perfect complement to the bedroom’s decor. I also used the same drapery fabric and Greek key detailing that you can see on the bedroom windows.

The final result was a room that guests will love, featuring a big luxurious bed with fabulous Eastern Accents linens to lounge in! I was so honored to be given this project, and I even wrote a letter to the guests who will stay here in the coming years.

The designers who were involved in the home with me are Alexa Hampton, Barclay Butera, Celerie Kemble, Thom Filicia, and Madcap Cottage – here we all are on the steps of Pandora’s Manor in our special Eastern Accents PJs! If you’re in High Point, N.C., for the upcoming High Point Market, be sure to stop in and tour this gorgeous B&B. It’s a great place to stay, with an amazing staff!

I just wrapped up a whirlwind week at High Point Market, the largest trade show for home furnishings in the world! It’s so exciting to show everyone the new designs I’ve created with my partners – and today I’m going to give you a sneak peek at what we unveiled! Like my brand new outdoor furniture line that made its debut with my partner company Woodbridge Furniture, above.

One of my favorite new designs was the channel-backed Tilley chair in a bright yellow velvet, from CR Laine. It is comfortable for everyone from tall people to petites! Tilley was also selected by Laura Umansky, a market Style Spotter, as one of her favorite products, which was such an honor!

I was lucky enough to have three of my new products “Style Spotted” in High Point, including my Calhoun chair from CR Laine in bright yellow chinoiserie. It was selected by the amazing designer Scot Meacham Wood.

And in Woodbridge, my new Nick table in brass and acrylic was chosen by Erika Ward as a top market product! Thanks to all the Style Spotters for the honors!

Speaking of Woodbridge, what do you think of the coral and gray palette I used in this room? It really highlights my new Emery cocktail table, Thomas console, and the best-selling Sarah chest that’s custom painted in gray.screen-shot-2016-10-26-at-3-03-22-pm

Half the fun of going to market is seeing all of my fellow designers, retailers, and friends, like this group of my former Mastermind consulting group members! Billy Ceglia, Lisa Hough, and Shelly Lloyd are all piled up with me on my Bradley bed from CR Laine, with gorgeous bedding from Eastern Accents!

And I was even more lucky to be able to show my hubby the crazy fun that is the High Point Market! It was his first time at the big show and I know he loved it!

Stay tuned in future posts as I show you more of the amazing products that made their debut this week! Be sure to let me know what you think in the comments section below!

On the Road Again!

chicago

I can’t believe it’s almost July! The last couple of months have been a whirlwind of travel for me, which has made the time really fly by. And as much as I want to be home working on my interiors, I do find lots of inspiration from my travels and fabulous finds for client projects! And aside from the amazing inspiration in the cities I visit (like Chicago last week), the events I’ve held and attended have introduced me to incredible people and let me visit with longtime friends.

In May, I held my Designer MBA class at ADAC in Atlanta, where the Duralee team (above) hosted a fun cocktail reception for my attendees and my new fabric launch. Atlanta is so much fun, and the ADAC group was fantastic to work with, too!

Then I got to meet up with my great friend Barry Dixon in Dallas and Houston as we hosted a presentation on the business of design, and also talked about his new line with Fabricut and mine with Duralee. I always love catching up with Barry!

In Chicago, my Mastermind group met at the Eastern Accents headquarters, which are amazing! The Eastern Accents team also gave us an incredible tour of their factory where we were able to see their stunning designs under construction, like the pillow above with its pattern template. So cool!

The group also heard from successful designers about how they do business, and I’m so thankful to Denise McGaha and Tiffany Brooks for being so open and sharing so much with the members. We also had fun doing a little shopping in Eastern Accents from their samples. And designer Rachel Cannon Lewis even spotted her client’s order, waiting to be shipped!

And while I was in the Chicago area, I also hosted consumer and designer presentations at two Toms-Price retail locations in Lincolnshire and Wheaton. It was so much fun to meet everyone who came out to hear me talk about color and the business of design- and to see my CR Laine designs on the retail floor and get a glimpse at my Woodbridge collection hitting Toms-Price locations this summer.

Whew! It’s a good thing I’m heading to the beach this weekend. Yes, it’s more travel, but this time with family and friends so there’s a lot of relaxation waiting for me at the other end of this trip! And just for a week I am leaving work, my house and dog, plant watering, my home renovation and punch list and all my daily responsibilities to my fabulous team, sub-contractors, house-sitters and friends back home.

Happy Summer!

I’m Blushing Over These Beauties!

The High Point Market wrapped last week, and it was an amazing whirlwind! I was so happy to see how well my new CR Laine collection of upholstery was received – the showroom was packed and the orders were being written at lightning speed!

For those of you who weren’t able to attend the market, I know I’ve teased you for weeks about the three color stories that we showcased – Blushing Beauty, City Sophisticate, and Drama Queen – so I thought I would show you each collection. This week, we’ll look at the Blushing Beauty group – featuring the fashion-forward blush color!

I loved mixing the sweet blush color with the tangy citron, which gave it a nice balance and kept it from going too feminine or “precious.” In the group above, you see the Julianne sofa, the Helen slipper chair, the Lena ottoman, and the Stella screen. I also designed the blush table with gold leaf with a fabulous company called Woodbridge Furniture. It was so much fun to work with them, that I might just have to do it again!

tf-6442

The Julianne is a Sheraton-style sofa, but unlike the vintage design, this one is super-comfortable! And I love the details here, like the starburst pattern on the nailhead trim of the screen, and the Greek key carvings on the base of both the slipper chair and the ottoman. The art above the sofa is part of my new collection with Soicher Marin, another fabulous partner!

This bedroom area in the CR Laine showroom was a big hit! We had quite a few people who said they wanted to pick up this vignette and put the whole thing in their own bedrooms at home! The Lucy upholstered bed and the leather Beverly bench are both from my collection with CR Laine, and the art is from my Soicher Marin line. I’m also really appreciative of partners who allowed us to borrow product to finish off our looks – like the lamps from Currey & Company, the mirror from Mirror Image, rug from Surya, the bedding from Eastern Accents, and the bedside tables from Woodbridge.

The Lucy is fully upholstered all the way to the floor with no boxing wooden foot, which gives it such a luxurious look! And that blush leather on the Beverly bench was to-die-for!

I loved the Blushing Beauty group in my Tobi Fairley for CR Laine collection, and I am so happy that it was a success at market! I can’t wait to see it in stores in just a few weeks, and in people’s homes! I’m already planning to put these designs in some of my own new projects.

Next week, I’ll show you the City Sophisticate group. And if you want to take the quiz to see which group fits your personality, just click here!
