Before and After: Beautiful B&B

Posted by

There’s an amazing new bed and breakfast in High Point, N.C.! It’s called Pandora’s Manor and it’s owned by one of my favorite companies, Eastern Accents. They asked me and 5 other interior designers to revamp the bedrooms in the historic home, and given my love of traditional homes, I couldn’t wait to redesign my space!

Before we got started, the rooms had some amazing details that you see in so many historic homes, like the wood floors and a marble fireplace – I love a fireplace in a bedroom! But, also like a lot of older homes, things also looked a bit dated as families moved in and out and as tastes and trends changed.

One thing I knew I wanted to add was a WOW factor, but I still wanted to keep the traditional elements that I love so much. So I added wainscoting to the bottom of the walls, but gave those walls a more modern look with a deep black paint on the upper half. Then I layered in a bright yellow fabric in the draperies and upholstery, all from fabrics that are in my own collection for Duralee.

The room before was a little cramped with older furniture and upholstery, and I wanted to add glamour and a more modern look with my design for this bedroom.

My new Tilly chair for CR Laine really has that vintage look with a modern twist that I was searching for, so it was the perfect fit. And I was lucky enough to also be able to use pieces from my collections of art for Soicher Marin and tables and a desk from Woodbridge Furniture.

There is an attached bathroom for each of the bedrooms, so I also pulled in some of the design elements and colors from the bedroom into the bath.

I love a bold graphic wallpaper, and this black-and-white pattern was a perfect complement to the bedroom’s decor. I also used the same drapery fabric and Greek key detailing that you can see on the bedroom windows.

The final result was a room that guests will love, featuring a big luxurious bed with fabulous Eastern Accents linens to lounge in! I was so honored to be given this project, and I even wrote a letter to the guests who will stay here in the coming years.

The designers who were involved in the home with me are Alexa Hampton, Barclay Butera, Celerie Kemble, Thom Filicia, and Madcap Cottage – here we all are on the steps of Pandora’s Manor in our special Eastern Accents PJs! If you’re in High Point, N.C., for the upcoming High Point Market, be sure to stop in and tour this gorgeous B&B. It’s a great place to stay, with an amazing staff!

What Is That Color? Lavender Love

I love designing rooms for kids, to give them a space that’s all their own and makes them feel special! So when I began to create this room for a fabulous little girl, I wanted to be sure it reflected who she was. She likes some feminine things, but she isn’t too girlie, so I knew the decor needed to reflect that. And once I found that fabulous toile on the window treatments, I knew I had a great color palette, too!

The paint color is Enchant by Sherwin-Williams, and it strikes that perfect balance between soft but not too sweet. And I loved it paired with the black and white combination of complementary colors – that really kept it grounded and sophisticated for this grown-up girl!

So what do you think of this lovely lavender? Would you use purple in one of your rooms? Tell me why or why not in the comments section below!

Tobi TV: 5 Ideas for Using Black and White in Your Home

Which two colors have ALWAYS stood the test of time, no matter the decade or the design style? That’s right – it’s black and white!

12

Together, they are really a dynamic duo. Black and white are two of my favorite colors – they are classic, traditional, and timeless. You can never go wrong with these two, whether it’s in your wardrobe or in your home!

So how can you use black and white in your interior? Let’s look at a few of my projects, and I’ll give you some ideas!

Wow! Are you ready to jump onto the black-and-white bandwagon? Here are things to consider:

  1. Consider a large-scale wallpaper in black and white! It will really make an impression, and will add amazing visual interest to your room.
  2. Black and white is perfect in a graphic or geometric pattern. Use it with bright splashes of another color, like coral or green. After all, black and white go with everything!
  3. White and black furniture is also a classic look – put these colors on classic forms and your room will be completely timeless, and will have a bit of that Dorothy Draper look!
  4. The dynamic black and white duo is perfect in the great outdoors. Consider large cabana stripes for a pattern on awnings, fabrics, or even a porch ceiling.
  5. Black and white isn’t just for grown-ups. Pair it with pale pink, pale green, or even fire engine red for a kids’ room. Psychologists say graphic patterns in black and white are great for stimulating little minds, so you can even use these two classic colors in a nursery like I did for my daughter!

I hope these tips for using black and white have helped you! Do you have the two in any of YOUR rooms? If so, tell me in the comments below how you use them in your home!

If you’ve never used them, consider black and white in your next room makeover! The classic look will be perfect in your home for years to come!

What Is That Color? Going Greige

The very best color for a bedroom is any hue that makes you relax – a color that makes you feel like you’ve reached a calm oasis. So when I choose colors for my clients’ master bedrooms, I always go for soothing shades like a soft blue, blush, subtle green or a shade of beige. And in this particular room, I had a good jumping-off point for this neutral.

I like to choose my paint colors by first looking at the fabrics I’m going to use in a room. I knew this fabulous Duralee fabric would make my clients happy, with the subtle yellow and the geometric print. So I chose the paint color from that great neutral right in the center of the pattern. It just happens to be a melded shade that a lot of people love right now, called greige. It isn’t quite grey and it isn’t not exactly beige, but it’s in neutral territory between the two!

The exact color I chose is Sherwin-Williams 7031 Mega Greige. It’s the perfect background and balance for the touches of yellow in the room (did you notice the little detail of yellow in the trim on the bed?). It keeps the yellow from being overly bright and intense in the room, and instead grounds the colors in a quiet way.

So what do you think of this color? Do you like to use greige in your home? Let me know in the comments section below!
