My Oprah Moment and a Tobi Fairley Free Telecall: Mastermind Questions Answered!

Posted by

Hi Friends,

Well it’s November and I said I would be back to regular blogging this month, so here I am!! I have SO much to catch you up on in the coming days and I am so very excited to be back, but to tell you the truth, I have been having too much fun to slow down and write about it all.

I have been on a whirl-wind tour of the country over the last 12 weeks including trips to  Seattle (twice), Asheville, Richmond, High Point, New York, and Birmingham not to mention 3 client installs, a few photo shoots, 2 design camps (well one is this week), lots of Razorback Football Games, trips to the Riverhouse to hike and fish with my family, getting a new puppy and much, much more!

And I have to say that in all my years as a Designer, these were the easiest 12 weeks of “busy” that I have ever had. Why is that? Well it’s because over the last 18 months I have made some major changes in my life. What are they you ask? Well it’s really just one BIG change…a mental shift really.  For the first time in all my almost 41 years, I started REALLY taking care of me! Uh huh! I now make MYSELF a priority…THE priority.

Yes, that’s right. I finally embraced self-care and started realizing that if I don’t take care of me, how in the world can I take care of clients, employees, the press, vendors, my family, the pups or anyone else?? And if all this work I am doing isn’t making me totally happy, then why in the heck am I working so hard? I deserve to be happy!

I feel like I am having an “Oprah moment”, but it’s true. You know those moments that have defined Oprah’s life and career? Those big break-throughs that she has so passionately shared with the public for years, so that what she has learned can help others learn too?

Well in my “Oprah moment”, I decided that to have the life that I wanted, I had to take the bull by the horns, throw out all my excuses of “I don’t have time”, or “I don’t have a choice” etc. etc. and start designing the life of my dreams. I decided to JUST DECIDE!

And you know what I learned? Well maybe I can’t have EVERYTHING I want, or at least not all at once. But I can have MOST of it at the same time and the stuff that wouldn’t fit in my schedule, it turns out that I didn’t really want those things that much after all.

And no it wasn’t an over-night success. But you know what started to happen as a result in not so many months? Well, I have lost 32 pounds (in 15 months), I am on a mission of whole foods and healthy living (and I don’t feel deprived), my business is making more money than it has made EVER, and I am the happiest I have ever been.

I feel 10 years younger, I start my days early and I get more sleep than I have in years. And the best part, I have more time with my family than I could dream of. I don’t work on Friday’s (those days are Tobi days filled with yoga and spa and whatever the heck I want) and I am taking more vacations and days off than you can even imagine, yet all our work still gets done!

And yes, I am telling the truth. You can have the life and the business you want at the same time. They can co-exhist. You can say NO to most things that are on your plate right now and you can just DECIDE what to do each day based on what makes you happy. And if you do it right, your business won’t fall apart! In fact, it will soar!

Ever heard the phrase “What you resist persists”? Well stop resisting all that stuff you don’t love to do and your business will make a giant leap to success! You DO have a choice and I suggest you don’t wait another minute to start designing the life and business of your dreams.

18 months ago I was over-worked, over-weight, over-stressed, and under paid. I was 6 months from turning 40 and I decided that I did not want to live the next 40 years that way. I decided to make a change. And let me tell you, it was the hardest but most important work I have ever done in my life. And it was TOTALLY WORTH IT!!

Now I am on a mission to bring my process of change to the many under-paid, over-worked, over-weight, or over-stressed creatives and entrepreneurs so that you too can have a life you love.

In the coming week and months, I will be bringing new telecalls, classes, camps and more to you that will help you start on the path to health, wealth, wellness, and happiness for 2013. These classes will be for designers and anyone else who wants to make these exciting changes in your life. I’m ready to see you all SHINE!

Plus, my Mastermind Consulting Series for 2013 will have a MAJOR component of Self-care and Self-love as the basis for building successful design businesses while designing the life of our dreams.

  9. Heather says:

Thank you for sharing these insights Tobi! Some of them really hit home with me. I love the first quote about blogging your life, not living to blog. As a newbie interior designer and blogger, I sometimes get stuck finding inspiration for blog posts, but feel that I have to post something rather than nothing. However, the posts I enjoy writing the most are ones about a topic that really resonate with me, or have some significance to my life.
