Today I’m honored to be sharing advice from two good friends of mine. P. Allen Smith is our special guest blogger for the day and he is sharing a bit of advice from our mutual friend, interior designer Lindsey Coral Harper. I know you’ll enjoy learning from their expertise. Be sure to check out P. Allen’s Blog for great garden and lifestyle tips, and see Lindsey’s latest feature in House Beautiful on her site, LCHInteriors.com. Enjoy! xoxo -Tobi
Throw pillows. Believe it or not but they instantly finish the look of a room. My friend and interior designer Lindsey Coral Harper says, “Having a room without pillows is like going to a party without your shoes on. Shoes make the outfit, right? Every chair, not just every sofa, must have pillows.”

Well Lindsey makes me chuckle, but I do see her point about a finished look for a room. Sprucing up your home décor can be done even if time and budgets are tight.

I remember every spring my mother would replace heavy drapes that kept the cold out in winter with lighter sheer curtaining in order to let more light in during the spring and summer months. I look for any opportunity to let the sun shine in! Here are a few really good tips on how to change up your living room for spring.

More Tips for Freshening up a Room :
- Slipcovers are a wonderful way to change up a room to go to new spring look.
- Think about the big picture. Make one big color statement per room, so that the room doesn’t get too visually “noisy.”
- Slipcovers are ideal for rooms where there is a lot of activity with people and/or pets, such as family rooms.
- When working with color don’t get too matchy. Use just a bit to add a pop of color.
So you see, you can change the look of your room in the time it takes to toss a pillow!
