Today I am grateful for the opportunity to give back!
I am so excited that tomorrow night is the Opus Ball benefiting the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra and I am the presenting sponsor. Here’s a clip of me on TV this week talking about this great cause…
As mentioned in the clip, I have donated a custom room design and a custom fabric design for the highest bidder paired with a festive party to reveal our finished product, all the food and wine for the party provided by the Ashley’s at the Capital Hotel and invitations for the party designed by me! And to top it all off, the finished room design will be featured in an upcoming issue of AY Magazine for the world to see. Really cool, huh?
I have supported the Arkansas Symphony for years, as I think it is so important to keep cultural experiences like this alive and well in Little Rock (here’s a photo of Carter and me, much younger, at the Symphony’s Opus Ball about 10 years ago). And as a mom, I especially love the Symphony’s programs for children. Music education is so important to a well-rounded education and as we know it is continuing to become less and less a part of many schools.
I have to say I am very grateful for my first black tie affair in a much smaller dress size even than I wore 10 years ago. It’s going to be so much fun to get dressed up for the first time in a long time and feel REALLY good about myself. (If you missed the post on my blog about my journey to getting healthy, check it out here!)
And–speaking of a great cause–tomorrow I will give you an update on the Holiday House Designer Showhouse that I am part of in New York City.
Due to Hurricane Sandy, the house is extending it’s dates so it will now be open through Sunday November 25th. More on that tomorrow as it benefits another great cause, the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.
But now another important BIG ANNOUNCEMENT that many of you have been asking about…our next Camp Tobi Fairley Designer MBA Camp Dates!
I am excited to tell you that we will be “Going Camping” here in Little Rock again with our Designer MBA Camp January 9-11, 2013. So if you want to jump start your design business and start 2013 off right by Designing a business you LOVE, then you will not want to miss this Life-Changing Experience!!
Designer MBA is a business education for design pros. In it, we share the lessons I’ve learned as a business owner in the design industry. From fees to contracts to public relations, I offer tried and true tools and strategies that can give designers the confidence they need to professionalize their processes.
Here is what a few of our previous MBA campers said about their Camp Tobi Fairley Experience…
“What I cherish most about my decision to attend Tobi’s Camp is the hope I saw in Tobi, her staff and the others attending. It restored MY hope in this Business called Interior Design. It restored my understanding of a gift of talent given, not deserved. And it reminded me that our spaces, our homes are the place where trust and gentility begin. That is worth working for.If not for our generation, then certainly the next. Please, if you are even thinking about going to camp, do so.”
Ann McDonald of Couture Chateau
“During [Designer MBA], my entire perspective on the design business was torn down and then rebuilt from the ground up with a fresh outlook. I realized that my frustration with owning a business stemmed from my own limiting beliefs about my abilities and my assumptions about my clients. Tobi helpfully and tirelessly worked with [us], offering suggestions, ideas, and tips to help us take our businesses to the next level. The group of design campers, Tobi’s staff, Tobi, and yes, Bebe, all bonded through laughter and tears shared over our common mistakes, and we have kept in close contact since camp to share our successes and breakthroughs with each other.
Upon my return home, I had not only the determination to grow my design business, but the insight I needed to create a plan and implement processes and services that would get me there; not to mention the support of the incredible women I met, and Tobi and her amazing staff rooting for us all to succeed. I wasted no time re-vamping my design services and fee structure, and the response from both existing and potential clients has been overwhelming – and I am a much more fulfilled business owner! The path to my goals is much clearer now, and I have Tobi to thank for giving me the push I needed to start running toward them and for teaching me to value the expertise I bring to my clients.
Designer MBA Camp gave me the resolve to re-think how I was doing business so that I could stay in business. It was the best investment I have made in my company since starting it in 2009. Since I left Designer MBA Camp, I can already see and feel the effects of the changes I made immediately thereafter. If you are an interior designer who is struggling to grow your business, or an interior designer who is considering starting your own business, take Bebe’s advice – and mine – and follow Tobi. She really will show you what to do.”
