Expert Advice: Lygia Harkins

Hi Friends & Happy Monday! This week marks the launch of my next round of Design Camps! I’m so excited to share these new dates with you and hope to see you all here soon! Today, I wanted to give you some expert advice from a former camper. Lygia Harkins attended my last Design Camp A to Z this past May. She was the lucky winner of the At Home in Arkansas free ticket giveaway. While Lygia is a top-notch designer herself, she took many nuggets of info away from camp. It always amazes me how people find at least two or three AHA! moments when they attend one of these sessions. I wonder what you might discover?? I know you’ll enjoy Lygia’s insight today and be sure to stay tuned for my camp date announcement. It will be coming your way very, very soon!! xo, Tobi

I took so many amazing ideas away from design camp it was hard to narrow it down to just one! I reviewed all my notes and the camp handbook and the thing that kept jumping out at me was using room-sized rugs to define a space.

I remember thinking what a simple, but genius idea this was when Tobi shared it (I have asterisks by this idea all over my book!). It is such an amazing way to define an entire room as a cohesive space and unify all the seating groups rather than breaking it up with smaller rugs. Also, it is so easy to have custom room-sized rugs cut from carpet and bound, which makes it have big design impact with a smaller hit to the budget. Especially as rugs sometimes can be very expensive. I am dying to use the idea for my next client!
