Amen to the coat closet. I can’t believe how in many newer homes it is forgotten or poorly placed and the foyer is often an after thought. Creating a sense of entry and hospitality is one of the first design challenges Sally and I are typically asked to resolve in a project. In New England, with our very seasonal weather, durable floors that will stand up to mud, water and salt are a top priority. We will frequently specify a small walk out mat to be used during the winter months when the weather is particularly messy and unpredictable.
