P. Allen Smith: Halloween Blowout!

This month, resident gardening expert P. Allen Smith takes us on a tour of Halloween festivities at his Moss Mountain Farm. - Tobi

The farm is the perfect place for Halloween festivities!  The clever costumes, the whimsical and often morbid decorating, trick or treating……and, of course my favorite part, the ghouls to mingle with my guests and make them shiver.

We set up a tent and lined it with farm tables and benches for seating.  Then we added myriad of pumpkins and jack ‘o lanterns, candles and witches hats to adorn the table to delight my guests.

Much to the surprise of the guests, my ghouls arrived by horse drawn wagon, a motley band of vampires and a single, frightening little waif.  I just had to get my picture taken with them even though it may have meant my life!  The pack of ghouls then broke out into the crowd and did their thing!

Later, the guests have their chance to be toured around the farm in horse-drawn style.

Let the party begin!  But enter the tent at your own risk.  Nothing like low candlelight to set the mood.

A big bonfire and cider made for the perfect end to a fun and festive evening!  Happy Halloween!
