In case you haven’t heard, my gallery is having an art show featuring the beautiful works of Sheila Cotton and Andy Reed on October 21, from 6-8p.m.

Over the next few days, I wanted to highlight these 2 talented artists to give you a little insight into their lives and paintings. So without further adieu, I bring you Andy Reed!
Andy Reed has been living with art all of his life.

“I always knew this is what I was supposed to be doing. I got tapped! It came to me, I didn’t go to it. It comes to me with a call and I have to do something with it,” says Andy Reed of Memphis, Tennessee. What the highly collected artist is referring to are his dramatic and sophisticated oil paintings of the Delta, which are quickly becoming part of many of the most prestigious collections throughout the U.S.
Andy has been engaged with painting since he was a child and will quickly tell you “it was always inside me.” In fact, one of the first things he remembers ever loving as a child was going back to school to new crayons and notepads.

His art has its own soul and personality. It is part of him – it has his rhythm, however it manifests itself.
His full-time sales position for most of his life has required him to spend time driving through the Delta region, which has in turn been the inspiration for the beautiful paintings he creates today. They are not paintings from a photograph, but from images he has seen over the years or that are inside him.
Painting is what he was born to do. It is his passion. It is his soul. It is his life.
The gorgeous blog Verdigris Vie did a post on Andy’s work in July 2009, after I introduced his work on my blog. You can see her lovely feature here.
If you love these paintings as much as I do, wait until you see the new works of Andy Reed. You can do so by joining us for a wine and cheese reception on Thursday, October 21st from 6-8pm at the Tobi Fairley Gallery. See you there!!!
P.S. Stay tuned for the stunning works of Sheila Cotton in a blog post coming soon!!

gorgeous work!
He seems to be capturing the soul of what he sees blended with his own love of the land. So much depth in landscapes that are devoid of a human element, except for his own perception. Beautiful. And thank you.
