I have long been a fan of Mary Douglas Drysdale and thanks to our participation in the upcoming Richmond Symphony Orchestra Designer Showhouse, I now call her my friend. She is an icon in the design industry and a genius with both architectural detailing and color.
Though Mary is adept at making any color look perfectly sophisticated, she seems especially savvy with yellow.
These are a few of my favorite yellow spaces designed by the talented Ms Drysdale.
I feel certain that several of these will make it into Mary’s upcoming book.
And in just a few short months, Mary will have a brand new website showcasing her most acclaimed projects.
Until then, you can see more of Mary Douglas Drysdale’s work on her facebook page(Yes, Ms Drydale is quite hip to social media).
And speaking of websites, if you haven’t already commented on Monday’s blog post about my new website and blog, please do. I want to know what design inspiration I can bring to each and every one of you!

Great post Tobi! I too was inspired by yellow and featured it yesterday – called Give Yourself a Lemon Lift! Funny how it was last years color of the year – but its’ ZEST still lingers on…
Thanks for sharing!

Loving the yellow! How can you not smile in any of those rooms?
I’m also a Mary Drysdale fan. Love these yellow and white rooms—such happy spaces!
Yellow is always so welcoming, and Mary integrates it beautifully into her work. Intriguing and optimistic, never overpowering.
One of the next sources of yellow inspiration you need to share is sweet Sterling’s room, with that beautiful yellow dress she had on making the color pop even more. It will be on our pages in a little over a month, and web too. Can’t wait to share it with our readers and yours!
Mary’s rooms always inspire me which is why I anxious for the debut of her book. I am also eager to see what you both have in store for us in Richmond.
