The Tobi Fairley Blog welcomes Anne Sage today with a post on camping fashion. My sweet and stylish friend Anne is one of the founders of the soon-to-be-launched Rue Magazine. And be sure to check out Anne’s blog, The City Sage. It’s truly inspiring! – TF
Time to get inspired…
One of the things that most excites me about being on the team at Rue Magazine is having the opportunity to indulge my love of fashion-inspired interiors–after all, pairing outfits with rooms is my favorite ‘intellectual’ exercise! So when Tobi asked me to do a fashion post for her today, I couldn’t resist a little ‘Outfit to Outdoors’ action!
Doesn’t this look like images from Survivor: Runway Edition? There’s not much stylish about camping in real life–what with the scent of bugspray and the swish of quick-dry fabrics–but the romance of roughing it has eternal allure.
Having a cabin with a sleeping porch is one of my life’s dreams, along with marrying Jake Gyllenhaal and starting a magazine (hey, one out of three ain’t bad!) Snuggling on the aforementioned porch with the aforementioned Jake in a thick sweater sounds just fine to me.
Do the French camp? I’m not sure, but if they do I imagine it goes something like this: vintage feed sacks for sleeping bags, fresh lemonade that stays miraculously cold, and not a greasy head of hair in sight. Sigh. The French just do everything better, don’t they?
Finally, the type of camping I love best–and the one my family always did when I was a child–is beach camping. Just some blankies, a bikini, and the sound of the waves to lull you to sleep. And if you’re French, you’ll find a way to keep the sand out of your swimsuit!

Gorgeous post! and yes, French do everything with style!
Anne is the best. I follow her blog all the time and love it. These images are great. I adore her idea of camping.
Hi Anne! Fun to see you here. Loving your words and images as always.
Stylish indeed! We are heading out the door for Colorado in our RV. I decked it out with down filled pillows, comfy comforters, my china coffee mug and my crystal wine glass. Gotta camp in style, it’s my hotel room on the road!
You never fail to make me smile with your clever script to go along with the fabulous photos. I’m more of a Hilton girl myself, but looking at these photos almost makes me run to the house to put my marshallow on a stick and head to the beach with a tent on my back (dressed in designer casual, of course)!
Great blog and what a wonderful post … You make roughing it so appealing ! Shall we call it glamping ?! I am asking my french friend if the french camp today. Merci ! XO Lisa
surely camping in style! a lady has no excuse not to..this is great! verbenacottage
Thanks so much Tobi for hosting me, and thanks to all your readers for their wonderful comments. I’m so glad I’m not the only one who dreams of an alternative to musty sleeping bags and the drone of mosquitoes
xo!
What a fun and relaxing post! Thank you! Makes me want to go outside but not in Dallas!
As always, Anne makes anything and everything seem glamorous! I love it!
Very inspiring post, makes me want to go for a beach camping trip! And yes, the French do camp sometimes:)
I love the spiderweb in the fretwork on the porch. I think I could camp if it was a screened in space!
Nice post… fashion and camping in one. Wonderful photos too especially the one along the beach. It reminds me when I was still a kid my parent used to bring me along the beach for a camping. So much fun, lots of outdoor activities. I’m sure it is still a dream camp of every kid out there.
