Okay, so rule number one that I tell ALL my clients in order to survive remodeling is Never, Ever, Never, Ever, Ever try to live in your house during a remodel. Well…I obviously live by the rule “Do as I say, Not as I do!”. Because as you can see above, I am remodeling. And did I move my husband and 3 year old to my parents, or a friend’s or even a nice hotel?? Well of course not!!
So to be honest, remodel might be a little of an exaggeration, but we are getting new hardwood flooring in the entire upstairs in lieu of the old carpet that was here when we moved in. This includes all three of our bedrooms and Ellison’s playroom. We are also finally finishing my daughter’s bathroom including new wallpaper, countertops, sinks and lighting.
Now, I know this doesn’t sound like that much…it never does! But after 4 days of living through it with at least 5 more days to go before the furniture is moved back in, I am getting a good taste of the medicine that my clients get on a regular basis!
I am trying to pretend like this is an experiment that will help me be more empathetic to my clients’ feelings. And I can guarantee that all my clients will be laughing at hearing about my own personal experience with living through a remodel. Especially when they see these photos.
My husband and I have had the pleasure this week of sleeping in my daughter’s room. The only room that currently has furniture in it. But believe me, the furniture is not real big! She has a daybed with a trundle that was mine as a child. So my hubby got the bed and Elle and I scored the trundle. But the great part is that while moving out all the furniture on Monday, Ellison became reacquainted with a humongous tent that my in-laws gave her for Christmas last year. And she realized that it would be really fun and exciting to set up the tent over the twin bed she and I were occupying for the week … Like a real Dora the Explorer Adventure!!
Well at least if my husband and I are going to be miserable, we can get some major brownie points with the bambino! I mean how much more fun can a kid have than sleeping in a tent, in the house, with your parents, on a school night??? So here’s my little “Blogger-in-training” in the tent with my laptop still in her dance clothes.
And here we are in our PJ’s ready for bed! Doesn’t this look fun? Well it is actually…but after a week of this, if I never see another tent, or trundle for that matter, it will be too soon! Hope all of you got a laugh at my expense, especially my clients! And don’t worry, I will post some after photos soon so you can see if it was all worth my little camping adventure! And for the record, my husband thought I should title this post “Extreme Home Makeover…More like Extreme Pain in the Ass!”. Don’t you know he just loves being married to a decorator??

Thanks for being so candid with your own decorating project…I’ll look forward to seeing the beautiful results…I’m sure it will be perfect!
