I love dresses! I always have!! Especially fit and flare dresses with feminine detailing reminiscent of the 1950′s! Maybe it’s my Southern upbringing and learning to always “dress and act like a lady” that led to my great affection for them. It’s certainly also the fact that I feel pretty when I wear these iconic styles!
As far as fashion designers go, Dior is my Idol!! He understood my silhouette perfectly when he designed the “New Look”. Many of my fashion icons like Grace Kelly helped make his feminine style famous!
TV mom’s did their part to make this silhouette popular including June Cleaver, Harriette Nelson and Lucille Ball. I think it is so glamourous how they wore dresses every day around the house with their pearls and pumps! I aspire to do the same!! I am even on a mission to bring back the tradition of evening cocktails once a month so I can have an excuse to wear some of my dresses “around the house” and invite a few friends over! Now if my hubby would just buy me some pearls!
I adore the Armstrong Ad that shows the I Love Lucy look alike in her belted 50′s look! Oooh, and I think I want to start a collection of broaches too…doesn’t hers look fantastic!
Though this look never goes out of fashion, I am happy that this ladylike form is experiencing a resurgence in popularity lately as it is really my signature style! I would truly wear these classic dresses every single day and be happy! And I just wish I could find more of them. I have even resorted to having some made when I travel to New York City. Here are a couple of vintage styles that I find lovely and would love to see hanging in my closet! They would look great belted with bright colored pumps!
Day #6 of Things I LOVE has got to be Dresses!!

Tobi,
I love that you love dresses! I am making an effort to incorporate them back into my wardrobe.
I’m a jeans & t-shirt kind of girl but it’s nice to feel more feminine in a pretty dress especially in the summerime! Hey what do you think about the long casual summer dresses? I’m loving them but not so sure that people in Lexington would think it a little odd.
Lisa
I absolutely agree with you. What would life be without dresses?
Tobi,
I LOVE any type of clothing, dresses, pants, skirts, whatever! But MY true Love is SHOES! The more the better. Problem: I have this huge addiction to expensive shoes. Great Blog post!
LouAnn, I have that same problem with shoes!! Stay tuned later in the month for more on my shoe addiction!
Tobi ~ Love the two pictures you show at the end. Very pretty and feminine ~ which is nice to feel every once in awhile!
Tobi, I saw Kathy’s post on Twitter about your blog. It is gorgeous and so is this post! I love dress’s and very feminine ones. I just love to feel the look of being put all together and polished, like women should represent themselves.
Thanks, Nancy

I too love dresses, but I have such trouble finding ones that aren’t too short. Where do you have them made? Maybe that is what I need to do.
Definitely! Have been spending the summer in dresses and it’s been lovely.
Hi Tobi,
I really love the picture you posted up of Lucielle Ball, do you have any idea where I can find that outfit??
Well, I don’t know about where you live, but where I live it is unusual for a woman to dress like a woman.
I, too, am into fashion and I love Lucille Ball and Audrey Hepburn, but if I go out wearing a dress or a skirt and heels, people will stare at me. Most of these people where jeans, tee shirts with logos, and don’t seem to take get their hair cut. So when a person actually goes out looking like a female, I think it’s kind of a shock.
I’m 33 and just moved to Arkansas from California. A big change for me. Where I’m from, the way dress wouldn’t be noticed and was considered casual, but here I get asked, “Why are you dressed up?” and I say, “Are you serious???”
Lol…
