Day 20 of Things I Love: Hats

I am mad about Hats! I love to wear them and fortunately I inherited a face from my mom that happens to look good in them! This famous hat that Audry wore in Breakfast at Tiffany’s is just the style I am crazy about!

I am an old-fashioned girl at heart and I am for bringing back a lot of traditions from the 50′s including day dresses with pearls and pumps, afternoon tea and evening cocktails and my latest addition to this list…Hats!!  I am even working on an annual Spring Soiree with hats required! What fun!

One of my favorite famous “Hat Scenes” from the Big Screen is this one from Pretty Woman at the polo match! This look is just perfection for me. The polka dot dress and the hat are divine. I haven’t come around to the gloves yet, but you never know. I might be trying to bring those back before we know it!

And my favorite “Hat Event” is of course the Kentucky Derby! This fabulous tradition is so in tune with my Southern roots! The Derby is on my list of things to do in my lifetime. And I only hope I can have a hat as stunning as this green one when I finally attend!! Does anyone know who designed this amazing piece? I am in LOVE with it!

And my favorite Hat designer…Anne Moore! She has a fabulous but quaint shop in the Hamptons that I visit every August when I go up for the Hampton’s Designer Showhouse sponsored by Traditional Home Magazine.  I am very excited about this year’s house which includes designs by my friends Brad Ford, Benjamin Bradley of Bradley Thiergartner, and fellow Top 20 Young Designer Kristen McGinnis! My trip is coming up in less than a month and after the house I can’t wait to stop by Anne’s to buy another of her gorgeous creations (or two) !!

Anne designs lovely pieces for winter, but I am especially fond of her summer hats! Big straw versions are my favorite. My last year’s purchase, a pink and brown stripe that is too die for!

Anne has experienced some fabulous PR with her designs over the years including a cover of O Magazine with Oprah modeling one of her floral numbers!

Check out her website to see her other great press including this gorgeous cover of Town and Country!

And if you are not quite ready to jump in at Anne’s prices, there are some other great companies making beautiful hats! This J. Crew Design is one of my favorites of late. It was so popular it sold out before I could get my hands on one!

So Hats Off to Day 20! I am totally in LOVE with them!

I couldnt agree more about hats!! I also love Peter Beaton, Patricia Underwood & Kokin. My Underwood is my prize hat…found in a charity shop in New England for next to nothing before the days of the internet. Now everyone Goolges everything… recognition is a click away.

    Tobi,
Have been meaning to comment on this entry as well.
Wanted to thank you for bringing to my attention the showhouse on Long Island and am excited to put it on my adgenda…and with new “rez” in LI, will be very viable. Also, one of my designer customers, Kat Burki, is contributing to the project and I’d like to see more of her work.
If it works and feel like connecting there, would be nice to see you again.
    Ruth

  3. I love hats too. I wore one at my wedding instead of a veil. My mother-in-law wears them every Sunday to church and to her 80 year old birthday party. When she stepped out of the car for her party, the workmen on the roof across the street all whistled at her. It made her day! She always says men like to see a woman in a hat!
