Breakfast at Tiffany’s is definitely my style of morning meal. But when I can’t be channeling Holly Golightly, I still love a great start to my day!
One of my favorite breakfast memories was a chocolate croissant and cafe au lait with a view of the Champs Elysee. But Paris is not the only memorable breakfast experience I’ve had. I’ve enjoyed french-inspired and American-style breakfasts in many beautiful locales across the U.S.
In keeping with my French theme, one of my favorite breakfast destinations is Mon Petite Cafe on the Upper East Side in New York City. They make a gorgeous omelette large enough to share which leaves enough room for some of their perfectly crisp pomme frites! Don’t miss their hot chocolate. Just like in France, it’s fresh steamed milk and you add your own warm chocolate. It’s not too sweet. Yum!
And still another French favorite of mine is Cafe Du Monde in New Orleans. But unlike Mon Petite Cafe, this French locale is definitely on the sweet side!
For a once every year or two indulgence, these famous Beignets and Cafe Au Lait can’t be beat! But a visit here any more often than that could be tough on the waistline!
For a more formal morning experience, one of my favorite places for Breakfast or Brunch is Ashley’s restaurant in the Capital Hotel right here in Little Rock. The recently renovated historic hotel was redesigned by David Kleinberg of Washington, D.C. Just being in the hotel is a beautiful experience.
And the breakfast is spectacular! A southern culinary experience, one of my favorite details is the homemade preserve of the day with their multi-grain bread. My favorite flavor to date…pineapple! It was divine! And the sun-filled dining room is lovely with a view of the passing trolley.
Another of my favorite up-scale breakfasts, The Mansion on Turtle Creekin Dallas, Texas. They have a fabulous selection of egg dishes including a traditional Eggs Benedict!
And I love sitting in their sunroom with arched windows and a view of the garden.
Now if pancakes are more your style, there are a couple of spots that I highly recommend for these tasty treats!
First the World Famous Sears Fine Food just off Union Square in San Francisco. I often stay at the Westin St. Francis and Sears is a stone’s throw away.
Known for their Swedish-style pancakes, Sears is an old-fashioned diner with lots of standard breakfast fare that is always delicious I love this shot of Sears classic barstool and mosaic that I found on Flickr .
And if you are farther East, The equally famous Pancake Pantry in Nashville, Tennesse can’t be beat! We always make a stop here when in the Nashville area watching SEC football games! But be ready to stand in line at the Pantry on any given weekend! The good news, it’s always worth the wait!!
Most days around my house, my breakfast consists of Greek Yogurt with fruit and a soy latte. But on weekends I love to cook a big southern family breakfast. My husband’s typical request is fried eggs, bacon or sausage and biscuits with cream gravy. My daughter’s favorite…pancakes with chocolate chips!
Day #18 of The Things I LOVE…breakfast! Now I just have to decide what I am hungry for on this Saturday morning! Eggs or Pancakes? What do you think?
