I’ve heard a messy desk is the sign of being busy…well if you saw mine you would concur that I was swamped! And the truth is that with all my travels and happenings at my design firm, I have had very little time to get organized!
The messy desk above belonged to Albert Einstein at his office at Princeton. These photos were published by Life Magazine in 1955 just before Einstein’s death. Now I am hardly in the league of Albert Einstein but as is evident in this photo, we do have at least one thing in common!
I am going to take a few days to get organized. This means little time for blogging this week. But I will be back soon with more exciting posts and a clean desk to boot!
I hope you all have a GREAT week and maybe you can do a little spring cleaning yourself. xoxo Tobi

Thank you for sharing the Einstein photos, I can also relate. It’s work-in-progress. Doesn’t necessarily mean disorganized, especially if one travels a lot. Drop it on the desk, grab the suitcase, and off we go again!
Oh my! It’s the end of the school year and I haven’t seen the top of my desk since August! Aaarrrggghhh
Strangely, I identify with these pictures. They bring me peace. Probably b.c my life is currently out of control with activities and duties. So seeing this makes me realize I’m not alone in my messes.
Wow, seeing that makes me feel much, much better about the current state of my office, lol! All the best, loving your work!
LOL…I remember in college, I really looked up to a local designer, so when I got to do a work term at her firm, I was surprised by how messy her desk was!! I loved it!
I am the same; stuff piled on stuff; always too much! Like me, it cleans up well
Best,
Michelle
Isn’t it funny how misery loves company??? Just hearing how we all are busy and messy and out of control makes us all feel normal again!!!! Glad I could help us all remember that it is ok to not be perfect! And besides…who has time to clean our desks when there is so much other fabulous stuff to be doing with our time!! Happy Week to you all!!! xoxo Tobi
I wish I could be messier, but I can’t – I guess the nuns and the priest of my school gave me too much discipline. I remember every day before started my lessons at school we needed to organize our desks, and I guess I still do that.
Wow Ivan! What a gift from the nuns! I wish I couldn’t be messy! I like to tiddy things up all the time, especially at my house but the sure sign of when I am getting overwhelmed is when my desk gets covered up! I am looking forward to this long Memorial Day weekend to catch up on some things!!
Tobi, I think we all have desks/rooms/homes like that every now and then and especially when we are overwhelmed. My house is in desperate need of some cleaning/organizing too! I know it is really bad when tumbleweeds of cat hair go blowing by me! Time to bring in Sven and Glen, the musclemen to clean! (just kidding, but one can dream!)
Yes I guess you are right and misery does love company because I found great comfort in everyone’s comments here.
However it was just yesterday that I resolved to be more organized with the goal of being more efficient and less overwhelmed….yeah…I’ll let you know how that works out for me!

P.S. I believe my messy desk is the product of a busy and full life…that part I wouldn’t change for anything
Tobi, I find that many clients love looking at what is going on in my small studio. A little clutter has often led to inspiration with them, with the proper amount of coordination from me.
I often leave out projects I’m working on for others to see.
I love a messy desk – I am always way more productive. Enjoy your long weekend, xv
