New Name, Same Chick

My 3 year old daughter Ellison plays this game from her day school where she sings “I know a name that’s not the same as any other name”, then she points at one of her classmates, yells out their name and follows that up with a roaring cheer and applause.

I am so excited to be writing under my new business name! A name that is not the same as any other name…Tobi Fairley Interior Design! Woo-hoo! Hooray! Yippee! Woot! Woot!

After almost 10 years of confusing the public with T. Lamarr Interiors (Lamarr is my middle name, and my dad’s, and his mom’s, and her dad’s), I am free! No more answering to Mrs. Lamarr, or Mr. Lamarr for that matter!  No more spelling it…T period, L-A-M-A-R-R! No more getting mail addressed to Mrs. Tela Moore (although my staff will probably always lovingly refer to me as “Tela”) or hearing confused callers who accidentally dialed our number respond…”Tela Who??”

I will now be known as just the overly simple and clearly understandable “Tobi Fairley Interior Design”!  From hence-forth I shall spend an eternity helping people understand that it is “Fair” like the “County Fair” with l-e-y at the end not Farley.  And no I am not related, nor is my husband to the late, larger-than-life funny man, Chris (although my brother and I still love to talk about the time he danced in a thong on Saturday night live with Patrick Swayze)!

Isn’t it funny how it seems so important to simplify and clarify, when no matter what my name is, I am still the same chick! The same passionate designer who lives, eats, and breathes interior design! The same dedicated student of art and the history of interiors.  The same Entrepreneur.  The same traveler who loves wine and museums and Manolos and Jimmy Choos!!  The same little girl who made floor plans out of pine straw in my yard and who drove her big wheel up to the “front door” to unload all my babies and their furniture. The same grown-up girl, whose favorite job, even better than being a designer, is being a mom!

So even though my dad will continue to call me and my business, T. Lamarr (he thinks it is the PERFECT name!) and you will now know me as Tobi Fairley Interior Design, I will be the same Chick! The same dedicated professional to the field that I love and have the privilege of getting up for every single day!!

Thanks to all of you who have helped make me, Tobi Lamarr Wells Fairley, a success under any name! I am excited to share with you many exciting changes to go along with our new name. As we move into our 10th year, we will have a new facility, a new gallery, a new charity foundation and a renewed commitment to creating beautifully simple but luxurious interiors that bring joy to you and your families!!

when do you have time to blog?! This was so very interesting to see your work but to read your humor and creativity was a joy!
I remember meeting you the first market after graduating in the Mark Roberts Showroom…as I helped you with your order, I knew you had a creative bent that would go far!
